can this be used without a sunken metal box in the wall.are there screw holes to surface mount it?

It is a surface mounted box but personally i wouldnt buy it again as during the installation by a professional electrician several parts broke and another couple of bits broke inside the mechanism. Its basically cheap rubbish. I bought a new set from screwfix which was excellent quality. Sorry for the depressing answer. :-(

What is the measurement from the middle socket to the left edge? I have a 1 gang socket close to a tv aerial outlet that I want to convert with this.

My unit measures 205mm wide. So far as I recall (and looking at the pictures on the listing) it is designed to fit over a single socket located in the centre of this width. Therefore, you need 103mm, plus clearance, between the centre of your single socket and the nearest obstruction on the wall - in your case the TV aerial.

hi andyguy no it does'nt have pushouts for glands you can only have pushouts in aluminum,but there are small push outs for a 3 core cable to use with trunking or as a extension lead.
