Saregama Vinyl Record - Disco Dancer, Cult Classic Songs from the Movie "Disco Dancer" (1982)

Disco Dancer. The soundtrack of an entire generation
Disco Dancer was released in 1982 and launched a National Award winning struggling actor into megastardom. These days of Khans, Devgns, and Kumars earn 100crs. all so easily. But not many people know it was Disco Dancer that was the first, yes, the first Indian movie to earn 100crs. globally. Mind you, that was when satellite streaming and selling overseas rights at astronomical prices was not a thing yet.And a big reason for that movie reaching stratospheric heights of global fame and adulation is the music by legendary composer Bappi Lahiri. While puritans might scoff at the lack of originality and Lahiri's "inspired" works like "Koi yahan aha nache", "Krishna dharti pe aaja" or "Jimmy Jimmy", there is no denying that Bappida was a musical genius and his original scores in "I am a disco dancer","Ae oh aa","Yaad aa Raha hai" or "Goron ki na kaalo ki" are equally popular, even till date. This is one of those rare movie soundtracks or even for any album, where every single track is a Superhit. And it continues to be popular, a good 40 years after its release. That is a testimony of the musicality of late Lahiri, which transcends the confines of a particular decade when a specific form of music was popular.Regarding the manufacturing, it is pristine. There are no audible pops or any other distractions, as it should be for a record in Mint condition. The record has been pressed on 180gm vinyl in the UK. This is my 2nd Disco Dancer vinyl. The other one is from the time when the record was first released by HMV(now Saregama) and manufactured in their Jessore Road factory in Kolkata, which is sadly not in operation for many years after a devastating fire on the factory premises in 2007. In comparison, both the records sound pretty identical, other than the pops and hisses on the older copy, which is to be expected.

LR channels flipped, decent quality. Liveable
I have the old pressing as well though not in great condition.New Pressing lacks detail and the LR channels are flipped, but on a side note its liveble, decent quality. Its heavier than old pressing. Not bad as previous saregama recordings š

Small pits are numerous along both sides of the record
Saregama does not maintain product qualityA price tag of three thousand would equate to the real thing if it were a silver record, remember it's just PVC.Small pits are numerous along both sides of the record.Packing method is poor š¤¬š”

Well ⦠this is like a rebellious cult vinyl in my collection of Scorpions and Floyds!
The media could not be loaded. I think, this album captures a lot of the general representation of āprogressiveā Bollywood music of its time. Well, youāll have your reason to buy it - for me, itās both a piece of history and a practical joke in my collection.+ The jacket and insert quality is top notch. I was surprised to see such high quality and then noticed ⦠Manufactured in Netherlands. Saregama is using reputed pressing studios for this one at least.+ The remastering is (if done) isnāt getting in the way of listening. I did find it sound better with Shibata cartridges - the clarity defiantly improves a lot. Which means, it would sound a bit muddy if youāre using cheap needle. And surely it sounded pathetic on VM95. But on a VM540 ⦠itās just as it was many years back. It doesnāt seem to be a remaster, so donāt expect to hear anything new when compared to CD.My only gripe is - usually Vinyls are packaged quite well by Amazon - comes in a protected outer box, this time this was just delivered as is. So, ensure you test your vinyl between the return window for dust damage or heat warping.Oh and I had quite a few crackles out of the box. Needed cleaning and anti-static treatment to get them to go away. Definitely not well handled during shipping.

Not 180 gm vinyl !
Although the pressing is good, but little disappointed as the vinyl is not 180 gm at this price point ,previously the records I bought of Sagar etc. they all were !
