Well-built and worth the money.
I needed a replacement lock for my outer back door. The existing lock had rusted slightly, and I realised that it was only a 3 lever lock and not as secure (definitely not for external use) So this 5 lever lock was necessary for security.Installing it was easy enough. It slotted into the existing hole in the door fine, with just a bit of hammering to get it to fit flush. The only issue is the mounting plate. The slot cut for the mortice bolt to protrude through is very tight, so the bolt gets stuck. I had to file around the opening so that it could pass through unobstructed. It took a bit of chiselling to get the strike plate to line up, but it’s very secure with the screws provided. Also, the turning action with the key is very smooth and everything feels built to last.

Great drop-in replacement lock
Nice and solid, and easy to fit if you're replacing a lock. When a 30 year old lockable internal door (to a utility area) began to play up, I did a bit of research and came up with this replacement sash/mortice lock. It's an improvement on our old one for the security aspects alone, where the deadbolt mechanism is protected by an extra anti-drill plate on each side. Looking at the old and new locks side-by-side I get the impression that the housing inside the door (called the "backset") is made to a set pattern across manufacturers (our old one was "Central Hardware" and obviously is now Yale), so as a replacement this one was wonderfully easy to fit. The only technical thing I needed to do was to reverse the direction of the lock so that the latch would engage properly - this is a doddle, you simply unscrew the latch, extract it, flip it left-right, and screw it back in. Voila, your left-handed lock is now right-handed.I also needed to enlarge the recess for the striker and face plates of the lock by a very small amount. A chisel and hammer will do this job easily. If the backset of your existing lock is a snug fit, you may find that the anti-drill plate's small extra bulk may mean chiselling a small amount of wood away from the door down in the region of the keyhole opening.YOU NEED TO GET THE CORRECT DEPTH. There are two forms of sash lock, one with a deeper mechanism. To check the size of your existing lock without removing it from the door, you can measure the distance from the keyhole to the edge of the door. If the distance is 45mm you'll need a 64mm/2.5" mortice lock, If the distance is 57mm you'll need a 76mm/3" mortice lock.If you intend to fit one of these to a new door and have not done this previously, buying this lock will mean that you end up with instructions on how to prepare the door as well, which is very handy. You basically drill several adjacent holes to the required depth into the edge of the door where the lock will fit, and then do a lot of chiselling to join the holes together into a slot, and square off the edges for the backset to fit in. You'll also need to chisel out a small rebate for the door edge plate to recess into, as well as creating the recess for the striker plate for the door jamb, into which the latch and deadbolt engage. With this lock, the striker plate is extremely substantial. If you're handy with woodwork, or even just patient, thorough, and methodical, a door can easily be prepared with a suitable drill, and chisel and hammer. We opted for the chrome unit, but there's also a brass finished one available if necessary.

Almost a direct replacement.n
The existing sashlock in the door between house and attached garage would fail to unlock intermittently. Rather than it fail completely when locked, the only sensible solution was a new sashlock. This Yale lock is the same size and the lock itself fitted perfectly into the door. The striker is different and the door frame had to be slightly altered to accomodate it. Only a minor wood chisel adjustment.A comprehensive illustrated instruction sheet is enclosed. That sheet also has templates to aid fitting, if required.A good quality lock from an old established brand - probably made in China though? One criticism is the use of plastic blister packs. A nightmare to access.

Yale lock replacement
Its always a challenge to get a new lock to replace an existing one as they all seem slightly different. Although some characteristics are the same there are elements that are not. Having been under the impression our existing lock was made to a BS standard we were surprised to discover it wasn't so purchased a good quality Yale lock. I did many checks to make sure the new lock would fit the old hole and once it arrived was eager to discover if it was going to fit. The lock fitted with minor alterations and combined with the frame plate it looked great but the best bit is locking and unlocking the door is so much easier, its prefect and secure with the BS approval. Brilliant, many thanks Yale and Amazon for delivery

Good lock
Good equipment. It came without a piece, but luckily our old lock had the same piece and so swapped over without a fuss.
