Open Country is challenging with resource survival, but fun too.
Open Country is challenging with resource survival, but fun too. How challenging with resources? If you don't get enough moisture, you can die within maybe about 60 minutes of playing from dehydration. I wish there was a way to shut that off so you don't have to worry about collecting berries to quench your thirst from every 10 minutes or so. What's neat is you can store berries in your big backpack, but don't eat berries that are 70% fresh or below fresh, or you likely will suffer food poisoning and be crippled from it during the game, where the vibration stalls your player every few seconds with severe stomach pains. Find natural forest cures by luck, or be sure to buy it before you venture out at the bar store. The landscapes have decent to sometimes good graphics, the controls are pretty good, the on foot 3rd person view is nice, along with the aim through your scope if you want. It does feel a bit arcade-y as in past games from this developer, but overall, Open Country is a fun, challenging game. The biggest challenge so far is finding a Moose who is hiding in a mountain forest. Trying to find this Moose is literally not an easy task as you try to track it through its clues left behind and find out where the path leads but often just ends. There are a few areas to explore, and the sound effects are pretty good overall for creating a sense of forest atmosphere. A good amount of options but the ATV is very limited at times in where it can go.There are paths in this game, so it's open map but a bit linear in that sense, in that you'll be trekking down a path just to reach other areas. It's a bit like a maze, and your character's climbing ability is limited to select rocks and platforms. You can camp out whenever you want to regain energy, but at the cost of hydration. Injure yourself from a steep drop fall, and your ankle will sprain, getting worse if you don't heal it with bandages and ointments.Overall though, Open Country lives up to its name and offers an immersive though arcade-like experience. If there was a way to extend the lengths of timers before things ran out to be more realistic in future games, that would really help make it seem more realistic. As of now, it's survival but on an arcade timer level, with under 60 minutes before a bite, sprain or thirst ends the player's life. I mostly enjoyed it so far but wish they upgraded it for PS5. The resolution and frame rate are just okay. Challenging, but still a fun game.

So much yet so bad!
This game has so much potential, I really enjoyed the open world concept yet it crashes all the time, it’s always glitching, and no matter what you do you’re gonna spend 30 minutes walking from mission to mission, Then if you get killed or if the game crashes, you have to restart so another 30 minutes. Came in with high expectations now I have zero. Don’t waste your money on this.
