Good Slabbing Router
Needed a bigger router to do leveling on slabs and jointing boards. It did great, has plenty of power. Makita is known for quality. For those who look at bad reviews, not every tool will be good. If you get a "lemon", contact Makita directly.

Excellent Router as Expected
This router is excellent.I have only used it so far for flattening a coffee table, but it exceeded all expectations. It did not bog down at all and is heavy enough that it did not bounce or chatter. The plunge on this is incredibly smooth as well. Previously I have only used my Bosch 1617 for plunge routing and was not a fan of how stiff the plunge was. That is not an issue at all with this unit. I was a little worried that this router would be heavy and too cumbersome to use for daily routing but with the ergonomics of the handles it does not feel that large while using it. I'd even say the added weight is a benefit in most cases as it keeps the router steady. All in all I would highly recommend this router.

The plunge router to get
I first tried this router in a woodworking class. In the building of our project there were several slots to be routed. One bench had this router and another had the Festool, which I thought I wanted. What I found with the Makita is that it has an ultra smooth plunge. It does not bind at all. The hand grips are secure and comfortable with the trigger in just the right place. An added bonus is the mechanism for adding a collet, which is simple and very fast. So glad I got to try it first. Very happy with this pick

Superb Quality MADE IN JAPAN!!
MADE IN JAPAN!! Extremely well-built, smooth, solid and rugged! Highly impressed with this tool. Would have given it 5 stars is it actually came with a storage container. Then, Amazon simply slapped a shipping label on the Makita box and through it in the mail - It arrived with a nice hole kicked in the side. Pretty un-impressive to say the least, Amazon. Luckily, the router was undamaged. Unit just barely fits into the box and you can not store the router in the original box and close the top without putting a lot of pressure/hard bend on the power cord right where it attaches to the tool - a critical juncture if you ask me.Those negatives aside, the soft-start, LED deck lighting and handgrip trigger control are simply fantastic and make this one of the easiest to use routers I've ever messed around with. Bought this specifically because it was made in Japan and was pretty sure it would be super high quality just like my other Makita tools which are EXCELLENT!However, some of the Makita sanders are no longer made in the US or Japan. Be sure to check before you buy if this is important for you.I really, really wanted to by a US brand made in the good old US of A, but the couple of hours that I spent searching, reading reviews and calling the various brands revealed that that type of product is a thing of the past, unfortunately. How disappointing.

Higher quality than expected
Needed a dedicated router to mount into my slab mill. I already have a few other brands, however this is my first of this brand. This thing has so much power, and power to spare. Even with a 3 inch servicing bit installed, making 1/8 inch passes across hardwoods is not a problem with this unit. The accuracy is fantastic and is very comfortable to use. The LED lit cutting area is a nice feature as well. Highly recommended for its quality, power and ergonomically features.

it's a beauty but one problem
well it powerful works great. only problem is your nob to lower it i use that router on my Tott router sled it has loosened up and when your slabbing it moves up and down a little bit i did buy the 4-5 year warranty on it but to take in and get fixed wow its 4 weeks to get back i guess ill put my Milwaukie router on it and send it back to get fixed.so if not for that i would have a gave a 5 star rating 1 star for the problem 1 star for how long it will take to get fixed i do recommend this to you if you want a good router
