Simple and Effective with multiple uses.
Updating my previous review below. I apparently missed the most interesting feature. You can see the LED lens at the end....that's the flashlight. Obviously the more opaque lense in front is the 'nightlight' or should I say lantern feature. It's quite bright. Too bright in fact to be a nightlight. Ah....but that's the trick. When you go to bed there is a motion sensor and so when you have the lights out then are in bed, in about 30 seconds or perhaps a minute the light dims. Then it dims more. So it's bright and effectively a 'lantern' or lamp if you will in the room but then automatically dials down the light to a simple nightlight. Similarly if you get up in the dark it immediately gets brighter. It seems to be pretty good at discerning whether you are simply rolling over in bed vs getting up. Anyway I thought this was the neatest feature. Even if you don't think it's valuable for you, your kids will.---------------------------------------------------Great product. Simple and effective. Plug it into a wall socket and you've got a great night light....light can select between several colors. You'll never wonder where the flashlight is when the lights go out because the night light will automatically come on....auto emergency lighting. Then just pull it out of the electrical outlet and use the flashlight feature. LEDs will mean long light. You could use for either a lantern or a flashlight in the dark. I guess I won't have to try to remember where I put the flashlight anymore. I'm headed out on a business trip next week and might take it along for the hotel. I hate that hotel rooms seem to have two versions of light....completely pitch black or leave a light on and too light.

Great for safety.
These night lights work great and even go on in power outages. Great safety tool for every living space!

We have 15 of them because they work so well!
We have 15 (not a typo) of these throughout our one-story, 2000 sq ft home. I bought them over a number of years as we realized how handy they are. We have two plugged in above the kitchen countertops and one over a bathroom lavatory. One or two in each bedroom, in a walk-in closet, the entry hall, our two offices and four in our living and dining area. They are of varying ages. We have had most of them for years and not a one has failed to this point. They are great for getting up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom without having to turn on the bedroom light. But best of all for when the power goes out at night. Instead of being in the pitch dark, we can travel throughout our house safely until the power comes back on. The photo is of three of these (two in the master bedroom and one in the hallway to the bathroom) when they are activated by motion. They will dim after a few seconds or you can set them to be dark except when motion activated.

I love these
What I like: 1. It works as a motion sensor. When I wake up at night to access the ensuite, it comes on before my feet hit the floor and gives me illumination. 2. When there was an electrical outage in my neighborhood, it came on automatically and stayed on. 3. I could unplug it and use it as a flashlight. 4. It has a few colors other than white that I can set it to if I wish. What I don't like: I can't think of anything other than there are no instructions for changing colors or using it as a night light or a motion sensor. However, it isn't hard to figure out.

A must for hurricane country
I bought 2 and they worked so well I bought 4 more. When the last hurricane took out our power these automatically lit up and stayed bright for hours until the storm subsided enough for me to get the generator started. They never went out.

Quite versatile
Reviewing Blackout Buddy Color version available on Amazon as of 02/2023. Previous versions now "Currently unavailable . . .".Physical properties: The unit I received is characterized by a 2 prog, foldable, non-rotating plug. It is not polarized, so it can be inserted right side up or down. See my photos for accessibility of a second plug in a two plug receptacle. I also included photos of the distance from the top to the middle of the plug (~13/16 in.) and from the bottom to the middle of the plug (~3 & 3/4 in.) in case there is backsplash, cabinetry, etc. close to your preferred location. The unit worked in the same manner whether connected directly in a plug or via a multi-outlet adapter.Behavior: TLDR, if you already have it figured out. There are two lights, a Panel Light (PL) on the face plate and a Flash Light (FL) on the top edge. The PL functions as a night light (3 led's, blue or green) or room light (6 led's, white). The square light selection button alternates between one of 5 settings each time it is depressed, FL, White PL, Blue PL Green PL, lights off, depending on the mode setting and power plug state. The rectangular mode selector has 3 positions, Auto, Off, Dark.Off: No PL and no FL, regardless of how many times you click the light button and whether there is power to the plug or the unit is plugged in.Auto: If the unit is not plugged in, the light button will rotate between the FL and the 3 PL colors and off. If the unit is plugged in to a powered outlet, the light button will rotate between the 3 LP colors. The LP will turn off when the light sensor is aware of significant ambient light; otherwise the PL will stay on. If the motion sensor detects activity, the PL will brighten. When the power goes out, the PL white light comes on and the light and motion sensors are ignored. The light button will rotate between the FL and PL colors and off.Dark: If the unit is not plugged in, its the same as Auto. If the unit is plugged in to a powered outlet, the PL light sensor is disabled and the PL will not come on unless the motion sensor detects activity, so it behaves as a night light only when motion is detected. If the motion sensor (rectangle below the PL) is covered (say, by opaque tape) the PL is always off. When the power goes out, the behavior is the same as Auto mode.Reset note: When the unit is initially plugged in, or moved or when power is restored, the white PL comes on as the default color. Use the light button to select the desired PL color for daily use. The unit will commence the chosen mode schedule in about 20 seconds.
