Good book for the beginning to intermediate kumihimo enthusiast
I own 8 other kumihimo books, and would heartily recommend this be added to anyone's kumihimo library. It walks you through several different braids on the disk and plate, rather than just endless color variations on the same round braid as some other books do. So if you are looking for some different structures or ways to play with the braids, you should check this out. As another reviewer on this site noted, the plate/square disk used for reference in this book is the Hamanaka brand which has a different slot layout than the Beadsmith brand, which is more common in the US. If you have a Beadsmith plate, you will need to follow the diagrams rather than the numbering guide for the instructions, but it's not that difficult to do.

I love this book
I love this book, it has easy to understand information. It is a good book for beginners and more advanced users. From using 4 threads up to 16 threads. The more braids that you do, the simpler process becomes. Hope that everyone has as much fun as I did learning to do Japanese Braiding.

Don't bother
The book offers some beautiful patterns but doesn't give enough information for all the patterns. Especially when you want to increase the number of strands used. It shows how to handle, say 18 strands but doesn't explain how to handle the 24 strands. doesn't help with the number of strands per color or how to lay them out on the disks.Definitely not useful for beginners and difficult if you aren't familiar with writing patterns for Kumihimo. I would recommend choosing another book. Don't waste your money on this unless you are just looking for possible pattern ideas.

for this beginner, a nice book.
a nice book. I am somewhat new to kumihimo (I have learned how to spell it, but pronouncing it takes some thought...). I had no difficulty following the patterns.

Brilliant Kumihimo - Japanese braiding book.
One of the best Kumihimo books ive used. This book has a great range of diffrent style braids and patterns, far more so than my other books on the subject. The instructions are also very easy to understand and the colour step-by-step photos are wonderfully clear and easy to follow. The book includes a flat and round cardboard version of the Kumihimo braiding boards to get you started. Although I cannot suggest getting yourself one each of the foam versions straight off. They make this form of Japanese braiding very simple to do!X

Ideal braiding book for beginners
Excellent book. Goes through all the basics you need to make braids on a disc or plate. Includes beaded braids, zigzag braids, and braiding around a central cord or wire.Instructions are all on a single page - makes life much easier. Also includes how to set up the colours to get specific cord patterns - not all books do this.

Step-by-step instructions
Having seen someone creating Kumihino braids, I purchased a couple of disks - now I needed some guidance on how to produce the braids. This book does that, very clearly.

Photos slightly dated.
Great for braiding but very little on beading. Overall good book but photos are a bit dated.
