Product Description Chi Kung For Health, Volume Three: Two Intermediate Moving Meditations In this program, Terry Dunn provides expert, step-by-step instruction in two intermediate standing meditations of the Flying Phoenix Qigong system: “Wind through the Treetops” and “Moonbeam Splashes On Water.” Both exercises impart sublime energizing and rejuvenating effects that are repeatable and . The first exercise, “Wind Through the Treetops,” begins with the two movements found in Volume One's cornerstone exercise called "Bending the Bows", which leads into ingenious choreography of 18 natural movements in which the torso stations in three orthogonal planes: first, through the vertical with two patterns of inward circling; second, with the torso in a bent-forward horizontal position, arm movements synchronize with chi circulation in the manner of “Turning the Wheel” or "Circulation of the Light" (as Qi flows up the Governing Vessel and down the Conception Vessel); third, with the torso reclined backward to 45 degrees, the chi is mobilized by the slow outward circling of the arms that finally return to the anterior of the body at the level of the liver and kidneys. Then the Qi is concentrated in the lower, middle and upper tan tiens through a combination of three simply elegant movements. "Moonbeam Splashes on Water" is a powerful and beautiful meditation form that musters the Flying Phoenix healing energy and circulates it through the entire body. It is the second most complex and second longest moving meditation in the Flying Phoenix Qigong system. Terry teaches this form in three sections. The first section trains waist flexibility and control and the alignment of upper and lower body joints in movement. The second section promotes chi circulation in through martial postures similar to Tai Chi's "Press," "Push," and "Fan Through the Back." This is followed by the third section, which circles the body's vertical axis through an inverted conical pattern with one's root fixed as the apex. (60 min.) Performed, directed, and produced by Terry Dunn; filmed at Badwater in Death Valley, CA by Emmy and Academy Award-winning cinematographer/producer Mike Hoover; Music by Robert Scott Thompson, aka. "the King of ambient music." Review Review of Chi Kung For Health, Vols 1-3, by Solala Towler, Editor of Empty Vessel, Journal of Contemporary Taoism: This video series by the well-known qigong instructor, Terry Dunn, takes you step by step through the "Flying Phoenix Heavenly Healing Chi Meditations", a part of the martial art, White Tiger Kung-fu, which was attributed to the Taoist monk Feng Do Duk, a legendary healer from Ehrmei Mountain in Szechuan province. He passed on the art to the ancestors of the Doo family in 1644. As in most complete qigong schools, which usually include a standing, a sitting as well as moving forms, this series includes six volumes. The first, called Five Basic Standing Exercises, consists of five standing meditations, each with distinct postures and breathing patterns. the video includes side views and panels explaining the breathing patterns and allowing us to view Terry's movements from different angles. It is said in the qigong world that to build qi you need to do standing meditation. Here we can learn five different ways to do that. Each meditation uses various hand and body postures with poetic names such as Monk Holding the Pearl, Monk Gazing At the Moon, Monk Holding the Peach, and Bending the Bows, the cornerstone basic moving meditation of the Flying Phoenix Qigong System. In the second volume, called Six Seated meditations, you are taught six different seated meditations. Three are basic, warm-up meditations just as powerful as the three Monk Serves Wine that follow. These meditations again use hand and upper body postures first practiced in Volume One. We are taught basic breathing for meditation and then led slowly through various hand and body postures. The first four can be done singly for at least five minutes. The last six should be done sequentially in sets of seven repetitions for each exercise. Volume Three is called Two Intermediate Standing Exercises and teaches two Tai Chi-like Forms only they are practiced more slowly than Tai Chi and are comparatively much short routines. Building on what we learned in Volume One of the standing exercises, we are led through these simple yet powerful qigong forms. Terry guides us through the form in several creative ways, using different angles, including an overhead, so that we may view the movements from every way. *Because of the great interest in qigong in the West, it is important to have available bona fide teachings by bona fide teachers. Too often students end up learning a little bit of this form and a little bit of another, while never learning any complete system. This series is a good example of a serious and gifted instructor who offers a complete system of qigong to the serious student. --Solala Towler, Editor of Empty Vessel, Journal of Contemporary Taoism:23 of 23 people found the following review helpful: The Best Chi Kung Teacher, February 11, 2007 By Four Tusk Njoku (Philadelphia, USA) – Terence Dunn is the best Chi Kung teacher on media. I have tried other tapes and DVDs over the years, but still come back to Mr Dunn. He is clear, precise and has a calming demeanour. I have yet to take one of his classes personally, but I do not expect him to be any different in person. If you want to learn Chi Kung from a tape or DVD, this is it. The DVDs including this one have a lot of features which allow you to customize your lessons. This particular DVD is the third in the series. They are standing exercises. Part I consists of basic standing exercises and Part 2 of basic seating exercises. This one, Part 3 assumes that you have mastered Parts 1 and 2. The energy builds upon ground covered by Parts 1 and 2. The choreography in these two exercises are a lot more complex. Once you have mastered the movements, you are supposed to perform them with eyes closed, after some breathing sequences. If you perform them regularly, at some point the subconscious mind appears to take over as your consciousness enters into a brown study, and you can actually feel the surging rivers of healing and thrilling chi in the body. You do not do the exercises necessarily looking to feel the chi. Just pay attention to doing them correctly. That will come. Undoubtedly it will come. -- dot com reviewFour Tusk Njoku 5.0 out of 5 stars Second of the Standing Series Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2011 This DVD has two exercises that are longer and more complex than exercises 1-5 standing meditations found on the first DVD. It is helpful to be grounded in the first 2 DVDs before working on this one, because it is definitely more challenging, and you need the strength imparted to your base (legs and torso) by consistent daily practice of DVD 1. Again, the exercises impart energy, calm, clarity of mind and strength which are hard to explain. You do not have to believe anything. It is not about faith, but an ancient science. It is reproducible. Just follow the recipe. This set of exercises works the "core": torso, back and legs in a rotating fashion that cannot be had in any other way. It is fascinating how such a slow set of exercises could have such an impact on overall health and well being. Be very mindful of your leg placement and control so that you do not twist your knees. I found it quite strenuous, so would rate it higher... more like advanced. The video gives very clear instruction as it's a "Work along with me" style. Great for lower body strength. Very Good Video. Another good addition to my working library. Poor production quality destroys effectiveness of video
The forms were done with a single take with a nice natural backdrop. Unfortunately the sound quality was so poorly recorded that it was extremely distracting and difficult to follow the instructions. You can literally hear trucks and other vehicles driving around behind the camera.

The Phoenix Takes Flight
This is where all the work you've done with Volumes one and two really starts to pay off. This set is more challenging to learn, but the energy imparted is much more dramatic and consistent. You'll need plenty of leg, hip and knee strength to follow through with these exercises. Take it slow and go back to the earlier volumes if you need a break. Worth the extra effort! As always, a quality product from Terry Dunn/Zen Bear.
