MCTS 70-680 Exam Cram: Microsoft Windows 7, Configuring 1st Edition

This book is good for cram sessions, not for a complete reference or study material on its own. It needs to be supplemented by an actual, complete study guide on MCTS 70-680 and a bunch of recent practice exams. I found this exam cram book good for a quick review, after I have brushed up on my general knowledge on the subject. Overall, I found this book to be relatively useful. Highly recommended.

I have used the Exam Cram books for the A+, Net+ and Security+ and found them to be beneficial and useful to passing the certification exams. However, this one was totally useless. Maybe it was the fact that it was a Microsoft exam and they are more difficult than CompTIA- but honestly there was hardly anything on the 70-680 exam that was covered in this book. The practice questions in here are nothning at all, or even close to resembling what is on the MS test. This book would be better suited for a new to casual user, a recretional read or someone who just wants an introduction to Windows 7 OS and it's general features (nothing you really can't learn on your own by exploring). But as far as the exam objectives go and passing which is really why I got this book, don't -please don't- waste your time with this.

I read this book and passed the practice tests provided by the book for a MONTH! and failed with 560 out of 700 score today. There were questions asked on the exam that were not covered in the book. Maybe the first 20 questions, we're not in the book.I've bought and studied with these Exam Cram Books before for my CompTia A+ and Network+ and passed with very high scores. I don't know what happened to this version.Again, if you want to pass this 70-680 exam, DON'T BUY THIS BOOK...

This is a great book for studying Windows 7. I downloaded it on my Tab2 and carry it everywhere.Nice to read it bed at night with the light of the Tab2. This book is full of information and would suggest to anyone.Easy to read, like the quizzes and lots of good pointers.

If you read the other reviews you'll think this book is grossly inadequate for studying for the 70-680 exam. If you know nothing about Windows 7 and haven't studied a real study guide book resource, then you'd be correct. This book isn't meant to cover every single concept that you'll find on the exam in full and complete depth. The intro on the very first page even mentions that you'll probably need to use other resources to study for the exam, and I would agree. This book is meant for someone who has already studied for the exam with one of the 1000-page long study guides available and is in need of a quick cram/review/reminder session in the days immediately prior to taking the exam. I've got news for you - I wouldn't review a 1000-page guide book 3 days before the exam, but I would review a quick cram book to remind me of the highlights of what I've previously studied. That is what this book is for and it does it quite well, in my opinion.Each chapter starts out with a few questions to see what you level of competence is for the particular chapter you're about to cover. It then gives a few very brief reminder/highlight pages about the content. Following that is the standard 10-question Q/A segment reminding you of what you just glanced over. There are a few typos (as one reviewer pointed out on page 143), but the answers are explained in full depth so that you know why the wrong answers were wrong & why the correct answer was correct. Screenshot examples and practice walkthroughs for various things are also provided. The writing is adequate and lacking in bad jokes or anecdotes that some other authors try to use (and usually bore me with).All in all, I recommend this book for what it is - a cram session to review immediately prior to an exam. If you are inexperienced with Windows 7 or haven't properly reviewed an actual full-length study guide, then this cram session won't do you much good. If you are experience with Windows 7, or you have properly reviewed an actual full-length study guide, then this cram session is great for you & your needs. I would recommend this to a friend and am glad that I used it as a supplemental study guide.

When combined with a more comprehensive detailed book this book will help you understand some of the more confusing concepts. Used as your only source of information this book will not help you at all. I suggest watching videos, reading multiple books, and doing all the labs in the books. If you are planning to get this certification with little to no experience working with windows 7 in a domain environment then you should be prepared to take some real time with this exam, reading a lot and doing a lot of labs. This test is no joke and should be taken seriously. But it is definitely worth all the work.

A Bargain, and fast delivery,

This is an excellent book that a colleague recommended for getting up to speed with windows 7. Any parts that I feel I need to dig into deeper I have a copy of the Microsoft book as well. But this is a nice executive summary that I got hold of for work purposes. Have not used it for the exam and am not sure if I will do the exam so cant comment from that point of view

Very to the point and contains everything you need to know for the test. Practice test are very good and the explanations of the answers of each question is very helpful.

Terrible book. Doesn't cover 30% of whats in the exam. I know this book inside out and I just failed the exam badly. Never even seen the subjusts from most the questions in the exam. This book seems to cover only the easiest parts of each subject.
