good product
It's a good product and all but the after-sales services are a bit let down. cuz after 2 years of use it died of lighting and tp link didn't fix it instead replace with a refurbished product it didn't last a month. brought a new one(it's tp-link since it's convenient and its app is easy to use). the reason I mentioned after-sales service is that it isn't worth your time just buy a new one. D-link after-sale services are also the same as tp-link so there isn't a difference in brands in how they solve the problem

IT DOESN'T HAVE DETACHABLE ANTTENA IN v6.0 PLZ REDACT THE PRODUCT PAGE
Well Tp link as such for features in routers known to be best though do have a peek on Indian making router company DIGISOL.Pros: NO HEATINGThis thing doesn't know what "heat up" is thanks to beautiful design of air vent it got. if someone says that this ain't good for long duration working or become unstable due to heat then just ignore them because I am using it throughout a day except 5-6 hr the time i sleep. This is the best feature of this router unlike my previous one i can put iron on my shirt if it stays on for like 3-4hrs. :DRANGE IS AVERAGE/OKDon't expect exceptional range/ coverage as it shows in the advertise pic like one corner of the room of some floor n u get access to like 2-3 floors.ITS ONLY GOOD UPTO 1500Sqr.ft area.Top notch 2000sqr.ft.As it depends upon the house n it's obstacles.U wont get roughly more than 2 bars on your cellphone if 2 thick walls comes between u two n that's not bad. And may corners of the area disappoint u with single dot.well I am not meant to scare you but don't expect so much in case of signal range.I have tested it's max range like 2nd floor if kept it in the ground floor raised up to the height to 6-7 ft.I DON'T FIND ANY DIFFERENCE IN DATA TRANSMISSION WITH VARIATION IN SIGNAL STRENGTH.as I run the test I am not find any major difference to conclude any thing negative about it.IT ENHANCES THE UPLOAD SPEEDsometimes more than download speed as I am bsnl Broadband user I haven't noticed that before when I was using previous bsnl modem.ConsIT DOESN'T COME WITH DETACHABLE ANTENNA with recent VERSIONS 6.0.It was with old version and I guess now in market rollout even newer version,so do check version before buying.most probably u'll get the same version as mine v6.0.

Liked the router cum modem
Bought this recently as a replacement for my D-Link modem after reading the reviews put in my everyone. Thank you all for your assistance. What I liked about this -1. The WIFI range is better then my earlier one. The signal strength & speed which sites are opening are all the proof2. Easy set-up (which most of the brand are today)3. The versatile connectivity - interchangeable wan/lan port & ADSL option. My earlier one wasn't so. For me this was one of the deciding factor as I have the option to switch over operators4. From aesthetic point of view, its really nice. The color blue & the pattern too is different then the usual stuff you get everyone. Its livens up one corner of the house. I wish manufacturer would come out with some different kinds as well :-)If you like it from technical point do go for it, its definitely worth it.

Initial set up issue but working smoothly since
I have been using it for just over 2 months. The product is working great and I am very happy with the product. In the first month I faced issues related to frequent disconnections and coverage issue.I did the set up though the 192.168.1.1 way. The set up was easy.I faced frequent disconnections and coverage issues specially when I use to shut the door, Coverage problem was solved when I placed the router in the center of my home and I got excellent coverage in all corners and balcony, but the frequent disconnections was still unsolved. I tried with all the various settings for BSNL but nothing worked. One day I decided to reset the router and try the set up via CD provided with the device and everything worked. I didn't have to make any custom changes the set-up CD configured everything perfectly. I haven't faced any issues since then, My device is on 24*7.

The Best in its price range
First of all the modem's design is very appealing...the cool design over the top gives a good look of the PCB and the heat vents are in abundance...never got heating issues(been using it for last 4 months).I had a major complaint with my old bsnl provided router(the crappy teracom) that it used to drop the connection even when the weather became a little bit windy and it just won't connect during a storm and this was really very frustrating (if you know how it feels when you are in the middle of a war attack in COC and the connection drops)...BUT this TP-LINK router equipped with the broadcom chipset proved a great help in holding the connection well...even in heavy rains and storms it holds the connection very well (NOTICE:I have a BSNL connection)...so this proves its stability. And Hats off to its firmware and UI of configuration page...provides easy configuration of the connection. The wifi range is what you can expect from a 1K-2K price range router but is more than enough if you live in a flat and a few wifi extenders can be used if you live in a big house ( But of course if you live in a big house you have a good amount of money in your pocket and can afford a high end wifi router)So overall it is a very satisfying router in the price tag of 1700 INR and I assure you...you can give this puppy a shot.

Awesome speed!
Packaging - Exceptionally Good !About the product - I was searching for a modem + router (ADSL Type 2 - ofcourse bsnl !) which could provide a high speed connectivity over a long range. (With long range I mean over 2000 sq ft. and can also account for the obstruction by thick walls i.e. 0.75m thick). Speed was not a problem. Stability of DSL over a high attenuation (read noise) line was also not a problem (In-fact quite good) but the range was not as I expected. For a better range I should have opted for N 300 + or N 600 wifi router. But nevertheless range is much better in comparison to the other makes.I would suggest that if you need an ADSL 2+ modem+router then go blindly for it !!

This is an excellent Wireless N ADSL router overall, but with some reservations
Not all ADSL routers are the same and in the efforts to drive down consumer price there have I fear been too many cut corners by the leading brand names so that although features have been added the quality and useful life has often been reduced. Having previously purchased low cost Wireless N PCI network cards from T-Link I decided to go to them to replace my router when my D-Link apparently failed to power up.The TP-Link router was easy to set up although I did have to recourse to contacting TP-Link help line to ask about the correct MTU setting and how to change it directly to optomise the web browsing as my IPS (TalkTalk) specifify a different setting to both the router default and Windows 7. Getting the MTU value miss-matched can have a very detremental effect on the ADSL speed cutting the effective speed by as much as 50%.Once the MTU was tuned (note this is long winded because you can't apparently set it alone and have to go through the full set up wizards each time unlike Netgear, D-Link Belkin etc) the ADSL speed was acceptible and as good my D-Link had been although latency on PING to bbc.co.uk or ms.com were typicall slower i.e. to BBC.co.uk on D-Link and Belkin before it would be 20ms to 22ms and with TL-Link 28ms to 35ms. TP-Link support could offer no explaination. So why di I keep it? Well:-1, The upgrade from Wireless G to Wireless N increased connection speed from 54MB to 130 MB to my PC in same room and increased speed from 36MB to 130MB and signal strength from 1 to 3 bars to my daughters PC in an ajoining room2, The signal at the extreme corner of the house is a useable 64MB on a low signal where there was no signal with D-Link3, The reliability of the ADSL connection is excellent with only one dropped line in 2 months and that during a time of a noisy line faultSo taken together a worth while purchase.A warning to allOn a post script I discovered on the Forums(as per my original point on cut corners) that D-Link routers often suffer from this no Power Up problem. Strangely when returned to D-Link they test OK, but those who have sent router and power supply back to D-Link have often had the powerpack replaced. Someone suggested that using an old style heavy transformer type power pack is better. Sure enough I retrived the D-Link from the bin and powered it with an old transformer type power pack at same 12v and 1A and the thing powered up perfectly and is now my back up suold I need it. It is probably true that light wieght transformerless switched power supplies are slightly more efficient and cheaper to produce, but I wonder how many modern appiences have found their way into land fill because of the underperforming PSU?

So far so good
I bought this to replace an old D-Link 604T with an N capable router that kept losing connection with a UK Talktalk connection and frequently needed restarting. Though others in the shared house use PCs, my daughter has a Macbook. The mini CD setup doesn't work with a Mac. No big deal as basic manual setup is easy - and is also shown in a step by step guide in the quick start manual. All set up and initial testing was done with a wired connection excepting to check the wireless worked with my Macbook Pro.On first connection I simply configured it to my own config at home and it was working within a few minutes. Then I checked, downloaded and successfully updated the firmware. For various reasons, I then got 'sent round the block' in various ways with failing to get it an internet connection, inability to import saved settings, failing to either keep or to accurately show the wireless security settings after each attempt to try different aettings . When I got it running and connected, it was noticably slower in downloading a specified file than my own Billion Router. I tried unchecking MTU (Maximum transmission unit - this setting can affect speed)- which I had set to the value Talk talk recomended (My Billion has a setting of 0 as 'default). Again around the block a few times. I'm not sure exactly what - but I got a connection with a comparable download speed, so I then took it to my daughter's and set it up to her username and password there and all works fine. The range is good - her room is on the opposite side of the house from the router. No problems logging into the wireless - we use WPA2 (called best in the setup config) with a pw of names and numbers. It can be wall mounted but its tucked out the way so no need.TP-Link are not yet accomodating Mac users. That doesn't mean that it doesn't work on a Mac - but that there are some things that don't - such as importing a saved config setting (Error illegal image). And a general flakiness of interface that may be the same for all. I tried using both Safari and Firefox to see if either was better.Maybe it exists somewhere - but the settings could have a help backup that doesn't presume one already knows and that gives a background as to what and why of various settings. This is true of most routers once outside the name and password boxes. If there are any further observations over time I will add them.If it continues to provide the range and reliability of service that it does, I will be happy with it despite some confusions around the setup. It does feel a bit slow in booting up. If it doesn't need constant rebooting that wont be an issue.Delivery and packing was fine

Bargain But Don't Expect Good Support
I bought this to replace the buggy BT HomeHub 2 that kept crashing when large amounts of data is sent over WiFi. I was rebooting the HomeHub several times a day and had tried several replacement devices from BT. Since we aren't going to get Infinity in my area for years, I thought it was worth £40 to sort this problem out.I'm reasonably knowledgeable on networking but this TD-W8960N was trivial to set up using a web browser from a Mac. The device has been running for over 24 hours and has been rock solid even with my attempts to hammer it. The signal strength and coverage is so much better than the HomeHub it replaced. I am very pleased with it as a basic ADSL modem/router.However ...The product description says: "The TD-W8960N supports QoS to enable smooth VoIP/IPTV streaming and lag-free online gaming." Well it may very well do but you would need to be a networking expert to understand the manual on setting it up. In this respect, the documentation is very poor.I wanted to make sure that VoIP traffic was prioritised over anything else so I called TP-Link's UK support number for help. I got through to someone at the first attempt but unfortunately the engineer could hardly speak English and I speak no Chinese so I had to give up on the call. The only thing I got from her was that the latest firmware "is better".Having read the other reviews on here about the latest firmware version, I was a bit nervous. However, I decided to upgrade. Thank goodness I had printed out the ADSL config pages from my HomeHub. The new firmware version didn't have the automated configuration for various ISPs like the older one did so I had to manually set up the VPI/VCI settings to get it to work.Anyway the latest version (1.4.0 Build 110620 Rel.52053n) has something called Traffic Control that is easier to configure. It allows you to prioritise particular IP addresses on your LAN and guarantee them a minimum amount of bandwidth on the WAN port.I called the support line back for help with that several times but could not get through to anyone. I sent an email and got no response so far. I managed to figure it out on my own in the end though. So in summary, seemingly great product let down by poor documentation and support in my experience.

Seems good but with a warning - not as specified
I feel it is important to make this point - This router is not as specified on the product comparison table on the product page. There it states that it has two usb ports - this model does not, no ports and the box shows this product as not having usb ports. If that is important to you you need to be aware of this. The router connected ok and I was tempted to do the connection manually but decided to let the setup cd do the job - it failed - doesn't worry me but... While it left some settings not set (such as security and the like) it did manage to wipe my DNS server preferences. Minor issue - TP-Link have decided to put two "quick installation guides" in so you can have fun choosing which to use. More importantly the router to phone cable is pretty short to my way of thinking equally the network cable is not long.Taking all the above into account this still seems to be a competent device. It connects and holds the connection just fine. Speed on a wired connection is very good though by WiFi less so which I shall look into. Although the speed is less exciting than wired the WiFi devices have all connected just fine so far. The firmware looks to be an early version so updating this might improve WiFi performance I guess. If none of the reservations bother you then at under 30 quid I'd be happy to recommend this modem/router after a couple of weeks use - I'll update this if there are any other issues.Added after some use.In general this router has given pretty solid performance and I'd say I was happy with it had it not been for the WiFi speeds. On three different WiFi devices (phone, netbook, tablet) I've been getting literally half the speed via WiFi that I was getting wired (& the netbook gave the speed variation all on its own depending on how I connected it). After a fair bit of research most of which got me nowhere I found a posting about the bandwith settings. So - for me - logging into the router and going to Wireless -> Advanced the Bandwith setting is by default 20/40MHz. Changing this to 20MHz only and rebooting the router now gives me the same speeds by WiFi as wired which I consider a great result. If I find anything else I'll update this again - I am still considering flashing the firmware.

Does the job quite well
My old wireless modem/router supported 802.11g (54 kbs transfer rate) but not 802.11n (300 kbs); over the years I've upgraded all my wireless devices and had got to the point where everything except the router supported 300 kbs. Then the old router became unreliable so it was clearly time to change. After getting thoroughly confused by reading review after review of various options I went for this one because the price was good as were (most of) the reviews.Placed my order and two working days later I got a text from DPD telling me that it was out for delivery and the delivery slot was in an email to me. To my amazement the package turned up 10 minutes later - the email has still not arrived though it scarcely matters now.I had deliberately ordered the old version of the device because I prefered its looks to the new version, but the new version was delivered, a minor disappointment which I have "solved" by mounting the thing out of sight.Configuring the device ought to have been really simple but wasn't for a couple of reasons. Firstly the instructions are unclear about which LAN port on the router to connect to your PC using the supplied CAT5e cable. Secondly I could not access the router at 192.168.1.1 from any of the browsers on my 64-bit Windows 7 Pro PC.I transferred the cable to my 32 bit laptop and was able to configure the device without any problem. At first I was a little concerned about the lack of configuration options but it seems to tick all the key boxes and I just have to assume that the default firewall blocks all incoming connection requests. It is helpful to know that ATM means "WAN" when looking at which connections have the firewall enabled. The device has been working without issue ever since being configured and is connecting to my ISP at just over 11 Mbs - the old one, running to the same splitter, never got much above 9 Mbs so in addition to faster wireless connection within the house, I've also got a faster internet connection.BUT I sometimes transfer large files (250Mb) between my desktop and my laptop over the WAN and the effective transfer speed is lower than with my old router. I've considered raising the transmission packet size (confusingly called the Fragmentation Threshold) above its default to reduce the amount of switching but I know how easy it is to destabilize a router so for the moment I'm enjoying a faster and more reliable internet connection and putting up with a delay on the rare occasions that I need to transfer a long file over the WAN.
