Alien

You have NEVER seen Alien look this good unless you saw it on the opening night in its theatrical run...and even then you'd be hard pressed to best viewing this new 4K Ultra HD disc on a large screen with one of today's better 4K projectors or on a professionally calibrated OLED like I'm enjoying (Panasonic TC-65EZ950C). Right from the outset, everything looks stunnningly detailed with a natural healthy grain structure indicative of the film stock this was shot on. The colour timing and HDR application present scenes so vividly yet so perfectly you might consider this in your top 10 UHD releases of the year and its only May! Fox have really done a terrific job here, and with the amazing work Univeral, who were one of hte worst with catalogue titles on Blu-ray uising excessive edge enhancement and digital noise reduction, have done on Backdraft and Field of Dreams both arriving this month, joining the level of brilliance Sony have had on display since UHD day one, the future of UHD looks bright, very very bright! The overhead lights in the ship's interior bridge, the look of the engines as they fire, the tunnels, everything is so increadibly clear and bright with super inky blacks at the same time, I'm truly blown away with this UHD release. The 5.1 dts-HD Master Audio track is extremely capable as those already familiar with the excellent Blu-ray release of Alien in the Quadrilogy set will know. If you're on the fence about UHD, jump in! Grab a 4K player and an OLED from LG, Sony or Panasonic (if you're not going projection-big) and experience watching movies in a fashion that makes Blu-ray look like yesterday's news. Seriously! They said VHS to DVD was huge but detractors said people won't buy Blu-ray because the jump from DVD to Blu-ray isn't as big (agree to disagree, I think the jump was frikkin' massive), but if you think the jump from BD > UHD is minimal and not worth it, it's your equipment where the flaws lie.
