Auto Line Drill Guide

We had to drill 1/4 inch holes at exactly the precise angle of the stair risers on a deck we built. The holes were for the upright post that was going to accommodate the stainless steel cable used for border under the top rail of the deck. The portable drill press set up easy and made it easy to drill a precise centered hole at the precise angle. What a great tool for the price to have in ones arsenal.

I assembled this last night and was impressed with the fit and finish of the assembly, however when I went to use it I found that the bearings that hold the chuck shaft were so sloppy that when I had a drill bit in the tool the placement of the tip deviated by 1/4" either way, and this was just trying to use it to drill a 90° hole - if I was trying to drill a 45° angle it would have been off by at least five degrees. The guide rails and bridge between them are tight and completely accurate, but all that is ruined by the fact that the bearings on the shaft are substandard.This ended up feeling like a $30 Harbor Freight tool, which is a pity. Hopefully the manufacturer will figure out a way to install a better bearing set and make it a precision tool.

This unit is very well made and can tell all of the parts were precision machined. The unit performs very well as using this with my cordless drill it makes a great addition to any wood worker. However the instructions were lacking and I had to use the pictures on the website and other reviews to put together. Overall quality unit but the instructions do need to be updated to be very clear.

I use a vintage industrial standing drill press most of the time so I'm accustomed to supreme drilling accuracy in my workshop, but sometimes find that I need to fix something offsite. I've tried portable tools such as this before, but always they have come up short.Not this one. It is beautifully and ACCURATELY machined, and has a very convenient versatility.It arrived disassembled, but was simple to put together.Pro tip: Don't take the printed instructions too literally ... just relax, look at the photographs, and use common sense during assembly.Also, always treat this kind of tool with physical respect as they are subject to instant ruination if dropped.
