Just received, but looks great
Have just received this, so just a provisional review for now. It arrived in less than 24 hours from PicoTech, with free delivery.Wanted to do some data logging so got various individual loggers, such as the Maplin USB DC voltage loggers and the Elitech temperature loggers, but in the end they had limited performance with various different incompatible software of varying quality and all added up to a significant cost, compared to this PicoTech Data Logger.I already have a PicoScope 4424, 4 channel, 12 bit resolution, 20MHz digital oscilloscope, bought in 2009, but even directly from PicoTech that still costs nearly £1000. I also have various other Pico ancillary equipment. The quality and the hardware, free software and support are all excellent.I had previously looked at other PicoTech data loggers, such as the basic model 1012, but even directly from PicoTech, that is about £120. That does, however, have 10 bit resolution, but is not as versatile at this DrDAQ logger. For the £95 this cost, it would seem to be remarkable value. It can be bought directly from PicoTech, but the saving is only a few pennies, so it was simpler to order it via Amazon. I expect the equipment and software will be to a professional standard and the latest software can be download for free at any time.It does not say what the logging resolution is, so presume it is only 8 bits, which if so is a disappointment. If you go to the PicoTech site you can download the full technical specifications and the full manuals, for this data logger and both the data logger and oscilloscope software. It is even possible to download the software and run it with simulated hardware, certainly for the PicoScopes, so you can see what you think before buying. It would seem this can also be used as an oscilloscope, up to 100kHz with 8bit resolution, seemingly with a just single channel, but that can still be very useful. It also comes with a variety of on-board sensors. These are not calibrated but can still be useful for looking at variations. It also has a built in signal generator, seemingly for both analogue and digital outputs. The capabilities of this are a bit limited, particularly the resolution. It would seem to be aimed at the educational market, with a lot of features of reasonably capability at a very competitive cost.If you want to see the full specification, or download the details and manual, the best thing is to go to the PicoTech website, select Data loggers, then the DrDAQ data logger. Will review this further once I have had more opportunity to try it out.
