Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

There is not much I can say about this classic American children's book that has not already been said many, many times.I first encountered Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day many years ago in Library School. While I was in the main office trying to fix some mistakes in my registration for the next term's classes, my pencil broke, the hem of my coat unravelled, and I dropped my books. Mae Benne, a beloved and much-respected figure in children's literature, stepped out of her office and handed me a copy of this book. It helped! The book is charmingly written and it is easy for anyone who has ever had a bad day to feel better after reading it.Since then I have not only read this wonderful book to my own children, but I have kept a copy at hand in the various training programs where I have worked to cheer trainees who are having a bad day. I bought two copies of the book last month while I was visiting family in the UK, one to give my little granddaughter, and one to give to her school. My granddaughter loves it as much as I do, although she needed to know for example, that "sneakers" are trainers.

Fantastic book! Absolutely brilliant! Kids loved it. So very funny. Beautifully illustrated and a joy to read. Well worth it.

good book which my sons aged 3 and 5 loved although I was worried when I got it that it may be a bit too old for them. The drawings are black and white and thin ink drawings and I thought the endless moaning of the boy and all the American references would make them switch off a bit but they asked for me to read this again and again at bedtime.

This book is so good, I bought another one! The first was for my grand daughter, even though it is about a boy my grand daughter is having problems with some nasty girls at school intimidating her. She will love this book when she gets it at Christmas and we will be able to talk things through with her.I would count this as a classic book!

This is about my 7yr old son - just written about 30 years before he was born!His favourite saying is 'this is the worst day ever!' , so I had to buy this when I saw it.Fortunately he can see the funny side, and we can have a giggle about some of his worst days too. Lovely.

It’s the right book, delivered to the correct Address...not much else to say

This could easily be my favourite bed time story. Every beloved niece or nephew has received a copy of this book from me.

Very good story of how we all feel on those days when every thing goes wrong no matter where we are!
