Famous serie for good reasons1
I still watch the serie...Started to watch it everyday awhile ago(had to finish With The Waltons season 9 first. Dull season). Indeed I can see why Pete Duel was so loved in the 70's when it aired. But - let's start With the makers of that serie - Glen A. Larson. He made With Bellisario Magnum P.I - excellent show! Got all Seasons, and he made Knight Rider(not my style so much- David Hasselhoff not been my favorite. But the serie was good still!)and other series. 2 men trying to get Amnesty - Smith and Jones. Do they manage? each episode is about 50 minutes long but won't exhasut you for the actors play good, and the episodes Rich. And enough time to look at Pete, even Ben Murphy. Their former gang appears often - from 'Devil's den' and they're characters in their own right - when 'Smith' is about to be hanged only two of the gang try to come to his rescue while the other keep playing cards, and it insinuate they don't mind? Than there is episode when a person elected Sheriff the guys know but they want to put HIM in prison. Well, the episodes are Rich and won't bore you. It's sad Pete cut his life short because he was troubled man With a lot of talent and intelligence. Ben Murphy is on t.v now. Law show.Great show! a must see and a very well loved in the 70's for many reasons!

Love it
Brought back memories I was 15 when it first came out and still love it, so sad when Pete Duel died before series was finished but Roger Davies did well ,he was also the voice at start of programme and starred in an earlier episode, if u like westerns with bit of humour this is it

Sadly No subtitles
Unfortunately being severely deaf I have to rely on subtitles and there is no subtitles at all. It was my favourite programme way back in the ‘70’s’ so I could still understand the storylines. I wish all DVD’s had subtitles

Alias Smith and Jones
Reminiscing on the fantastic Pete Duel and Ben Murphy as Alias Smith and Jones, a couple of likeable outlaws who wanted amnesty in this very popular at the time comedy/drama western is a MUST for individuals who like cowboy westerns. Later in the series Roger Davis took over the roll as Hannibal Hayes, because of unfortunate circumstances, whilst Ben Murphy acted out his roll as Kid Curry. Brilliant acting. A very likeable trio. Enjoyable viewing. Very much recommended.

Value for money
All the DVD collection in one case for convenience, one western series I really enjoyed.Video quality is good but not fantastic. But remember it is on DVD and the age of the series to take into consideration.Overall an excellent buy for a well loved TV series!

I bought this for my dad. He's watched it many times over. Really enjoys it. Better quality than some of the older western series.

Excellent picture quality considering that the episodes are over 50 years old. I always loved this show as a kid and I'm very happy now that I can watch it all over again

Great Feel Two-Nice-Outlaws 70s Western series filmed in Glorious American West
I fell in love with this series straightaway as a 12 year old in the early 1970s. For starters, not only does it have the most awesomely fun theme music imaginable but its weekly re-telling of who Hannibal Heyes and Kid Curry really are ("They were the most successful outlaws in the West but they never shot anyone, which made our two cousins from Kansas very popular with everyone except the banks and the railroads" - what a great chat-up line !) puts one in great feel modus before the episode has even begun. The outlaws are then usually shown romping on horses through the glorious American West and, although they are shown griping and feeling hungry, the music inspires the viewers to believe that this poor, lonesome Lucky Luke-style life is just one ever-lasting holiday. I even knew a retired teacher who insisted that she only watched the series for the glorious scenery - yet I strongly suspect that she had a secret crush on the two young outlaws. Inspired by the 1969 movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" (which was in turn based on the real-live but always amicable outlaw Butch Cassidy) our Kansas heroes are so nice and decent that they often end up naively falling into trouble where they mean no harm.My only gripe is that the story writer (John Thomas James – a pen-name more fit for another genre of movies !) thought that plots that were as complicated as hell are better than ones with simple, emotional punches. Even the technology of dvds often doesn't leave one any the wiser – which is why I also recommend Sagala's and Bagwell's book to the film. The sad fact of this very popular series was that the original actor of Hannibal Heyes, Pete Duel, suffered from depression and accidentally shot himself after the 35th episode. He was immediately replaced by Roger Davies, who looked older and acted perhaps a little sleezily. I never had any qualms with the change but the series soon lost its popularity and was cancelled after the 50th episode.
