OMT Thread Repair Kit, 344pc SAE and Metric Thread Restorer Kit

It's a good, complete set of stainless thread repair inserts for far less money than name-brand. Two things to know: 1) There is no supplied tap handle. After improvising and swearing for the first hole, I went across town to HF and got a ratcheting tap holder good to 1/2". Second hole took less than 1/4 the time of the first, no swearing. 2) I was repairing a couple of 1/2-13 holes. The drill for that size is 33/64...just a smidge too big to fit even my biggest portable drill. Fortunately I have a lathe and I was able to turn the shank down to 0.496" to make it fit. I have carbide insert cutters, else I would not have had much luck cutting the hardened HSS drill. Other than those two minor items, a good set to have. Nice case, keeps everything together. I'll be able to misplace all the sizes at once!

Not the absolute best quality but I've certainly had worse in the past. One helicoil. Kit at the store is 32 dollars, I remember when they used to be less than half, around 13 or 14 dollars. But with the price of the single size kits these days, I decided to get this kit as it has all.the metric and SAE sizes in one and it worked great, for the price of 2 single size kits at the store! Just take your time and lube the hole as you tap the new threads to make these tools last. Bonus is you get more helicoil inserts than any store kit will include!

Ordered for my 96 XJ Caliper bolts. Stripped since the previous person who did brakes over torqued. Worked out well. Have plenty other left over and many different sizes. Good set to have.

Overall, this kit is a fantastic value for the money. You get everything you need except a center punch, drill, cutting oil & tap socket/holder. Very handy for fixing broken bolts and/or for the individual in your life (maybe yourself, haha) who likes to engineer/invent/create/fabricate/build mechanical things. The helicoils themselves are of good quality and the tangs break easily after install. They include a lot of each size which is really nice. Also, the helicoil install tools and tang breaker tools are of nice quality. I also haven't had any issues with the thread taps, which have all left behind well made threads that the helicoils easily thread into. The only weak point in this kit if the drill bits. They are not of very good quality and one can expect to only get about 2-6 holes or bolts drilled out before they're dull. Take your time, erring on the lower side of speed when drilling and use "Boe-Lube" (my personal favorite) or cutting oil with your drill bit as you go. This will highly reduce the friction and risk of overheating the tip of the drill bit, rendering it more or less useless after. Overall, quite happy with the kit received for the money spent, a great value and excellent addition to my tool collection.

Easy to use and durable. Had a mounting bolt hole that was stripped out on the front diff on a Polaris RZR race car, put in the helicoil three races ago and haven’t had a problem even with pulling parts after each race.

When you strip some threads and don't have anything to fix them you will regret not having those in your kit. Haven't used them often but when i did i was glad i had them.
