I bought this bit to make "routered bowls" which involves the use of a collet extension (also purchased here) to enable using a hand-held router to depths of 3+"........ bad news is that this bit's diameter is virtually the same as the collet extension .... so it does not work. You must find a bit with a diameter of 1 1/4" vs this one at 1 1/8". I found the correct bit on this site and bought it, as well. Too bad the info on the collet extension didn't warn you what diameter it is. But, like ALL Freud bits it works really well until I need to use the extension so now I have two bits to build bowls!!!

I had purchased the same size cutter in another brand with a 1/4" shank and it bent. This cutter with its 1/2" shank did the job as it should. I am very pleased.

I have used this router alot to hog out interiors of bowls/platters that I make. It makes a completely flat bottom with no swirls. I haven't used the top bearing on a template yet but I see no reason why it wouldn't work as designed. Large bit that works great.
