Everything was included in the box that I needed besides the seeds! I did end up purchasing aero-garden pods as they were pre seeded. I was worried the pods might not fit but they did and I am very happy about that!The machine has settings for vegetables, flowers and the pump. It goes in a rotation of 16 hours of light and then 8 hours of dark. The pump does 30 minute on and then 30 minute off cycles. I will update my review as soon as I get sprouts! I am so happy to finally be able to grow some herbs and veggies right from my kitchen counter! The price is amazing compared to the aero-garden and its a well built unit. Great idea for Christmas for someone who loves to garden!

I purchased this hydroponic gardening system instead of the Aerogarden because I saw multiple reviews where people said they'd previously owned Aerogardens, but they no longer worked. Initially I had trouble with putting this together. There should be a diagram as soon as you open the box that tells you what NOT to take out of the system. For me, it was the sponges. Some sponges stay in, some you take out.Also, the included aquarium pump was NOT where it was supposed to be so it took a while before I knew where to place it. It's not the best pump and I have looked into adding an additional pump/filter.AFTER you've got everything in place this system is easy to get up, running, and it works well . If you live in an area where you have power outages due to storms, as I do, purchase a small battery back-up system. You'll be glad that you won't have to worry about resetting the lights. Additionally, this stem will allow use of the Aerogarden pods. There are baskets and growing medium in the box, but purchasing Aerogarden supplies is MUCH easier and simpler. Plus the growing solution comes with each pack of Aerogarden pods.The light height is adjustable. Please be warned, these lights are extremely bright. Do NOT place this in a bedroom. You will NOT be able to sleep with these lights on, even if you wear a sleep mask. They are very bright!I have tried using the enclosed baskets/growing medium with bell pepper seeds and I'm using Aerogarden pods. The Aerogarden pods sprout faster and grow faster than traditional seeds, not to mention almost all of them are dwarf versions of regulars. I'm curious and waiting to see if I'll need to transfer my regular store purchased seeds to a larger pot.I've not had to add water as often as the other reviews I've seen. I've topped it off with about a quarter of a cup of water (2 ounces). It may have to do with where I have the system located (not in direct sun, not in an overly warm area of the house).I was hoping I didn't have to return this within the 30 days and it has not disappointed. Glad I invested in this before purchasing the much more expensive Aerogarden counterpart. I may still purchase a smaller Aerogarden for comparison at a later date, but as of now, this does the job.

I liked it so much I purchased another one. I have done a full round of plants and some outgrew the container so well I had to move them outside ( my fault for the selection of seeds I planted) Everything grew so fast. Durable. I am bout to plant my second round in them. I had no issues. The only thing I would change is I would have added a clear sections to see the water level. Otherwise perfect.

Very simple and easy

a friend recommended me several hydroponic planting systems and i tried this one, easy to assemblecompared with my friends who like to keep little cute plants, i'm just getting started and lazy. fortunately, a large enough tank does save me a lot of troubles. watering every two days is sufficient. A beep reminds me low water level.love the pump which makes little noisewatching little plants growing up is more fun than i expected.

This system has lots more room than the Aero Garden we had last year. Water level is not visible and must be checked by using an improvised "dipstick". The timing system for the lights is a bit off - They go on and off earlier each day but can be easily reset by turning off and back on every couple of weeks in the morning. These are minor issues, however and we are enjoying fresh lettuce, dill, basil, arugula, parsley, etc. all on the same platform.

It does not come with all the bells and whistles but it gets the job done. This model did not have a clock. So I guess the light comes on whenever it wants. It has 2 settings one for flowers and another for vegetables and herbs. Not as heavy duty as Aero Garden. The round type plastic pod holders fits so you don't have to buy the square ones.
