A Chilling Suspense Thriller!
Vigilante detective Emily Stone and partner Rick Lopez are on the pursuit of a child slavery ring that abducted a nine-year-old girl from San Francisco, which leads them to the paradise island of Kauai. The leads they have take them to an out-of-the way ramshackle of a building, where not only do they save the girl they went to rescue, but also another little girl that was being held captive. With the child slavery ring busted and the abductors in jail, Emily and Rick thought they would enjoy the island paradise ... that is until the brutal sacrificial murders of a couple of young women has a serial killer on the loose, and Emily and Rick find themselves back in business with their covert investigation to hunt down the serial killer. Will Emily and Rick find the serial killer before he strikes again? Will Emily and Rick be placing themselves in danger? Will their latest covert investigation lead them to a possible deadly outcome on the island paradise?Dark Mind is a fast-paced chilling crime thriller that will captivate you and leave you sitting on the edge of your seat as you turn the pages. The storyline is well written, the author weaves a story that is intriguing and keeps the reader guessing what will happen next with every gripping twist and turn. The attention to detail in regard to the crime investigation is first rate, the author utilizes her experience in the criminology and forensic areas to provide a story that diehard crime thriller fans crave. The description of Kauai's setting is breathtaking, it took me back to when I vacationed there many years ago. The characters are realistic, their complex personalities and interactions with each other gave the story depth and made it that much more powerful and compelling. I loved Emily and Rick's characters, their strong personalities and dedication to solve terrible crimes had me cheering for them as they covertly investigated the serial killings. This story is the third in the Emily Stone series, and even though I haven't read the first two books, each story is written to stand alone. As a fan of crime and murder suspense thrillers, Dark Mind satisfied everything that I expect to find in a really good suspense thriller. It gave me goose bumps, it made me gasp and cringe, it made me hold my breath, and most importantly it drew me into the investigation along with Emily and Rick. I have become an Emily Stone fan, and will have to go back and read the first two books in the series! I would highly recommend that fans of the murder mystery and suspense thriller genres read this book and the Emily Stone series, you won't be left disappointed!Disclaimer: At the request of the author, a copy of the book was sent, at no cost to me, for my honest review.

Gripping and excting
Another great Emily Stone book. Very suspenseful. The only thing that I am a little tired of is how Emily is right on the physical edge of dying and gets rescued just in time, although it is dramatic and makes the story more satisfying for the person who may be new to the Emily Stone stories, I'm amazed at all the close calls and scars that must be all over her face and body. Still, I enjoyed this book and do recommend it to anyone who likes to see criminals get what's coming to them.

Review of this book.
Your books just sleep getting better. This was one of the most graphic books to date Definitely not for the faint of heart. You have probably been exposed to this type of nightmare in your clinical studies. As a former nurse and EMT, I still have some very vivid memories that will probably be with me forever. You just have to put them away and press on. Your adept way of laying out evidence and clues is uncanny. The ending was a total shock and I am still in awe. This in one ending that I can truely say I never saw coming. Your skill at manipulating the clues and false clues keeps getting more refined. You are truely a gifted author. People in the police departments would benefit from reading your books. Too often the vision and mind set of learning becomes tunnel vision. The person does not bother to look outside the box. There are far too many cold cases that need a fresh set of eyes looking at the evidence with a different perspective. Easy to say from the perspective of a nurse. I helped with a diagnosis on a patient from just an odor that I detected but could not place. Many people were exposed to the illness and even family members and friends had to be tested for a year before we felt the threat was over and gone. Sometimes it is not just the police that bring resolution to a dangerous puzzle. I have always enjoyed mysteries, trying to solve them before the end of the book. You are a superior writer with an unlimited talent that just keeps growing. Do not ever stop writing these fantastic mystery books.

Weighty topics, multi-directional plot
The rescue of a kidnapped child in Hawaii is just an introductory adventure in Jennifer Chase's Dark Mind, another in her Emily Stone series. Slow-moving island police and slow-thinking FBI don't seem to see the significance of a gruesome murder. Soon a serial killer's on the loose but even that's only one strand of this multi-directional tale.An analyst's attention to detail delineates each of the characters' thoughts and actions through scenes both calm and tense, till fear washes "over Emily like a movie scene on fast forward..."--the scene carefully described. Wiser than regular police and FBI, this investigator knows where to step, how to escape, what to listen for and what to ignore. She's shot at, misunderstood, flung from a cliff--Emily Stone certainly leads an exciting life.Island cop Lani might struggle to catch up, but his instincts are good. Meanwhile lover Rick and close friend Jordan, both seasoned investigators, offer aid, while murderers, psychiatric patients, mystical old men and assorted criminals add to the cast. Some odd word choices and heavily weighted details slow down this story, as does the urge to say "don't go there" or "switch off your phone." But the action's well-imagined, the details are clear (even to a knife slipping into intestines) and glossary of Hawaiian words is a very enjoyable bonus. Made for TV perhaps rather than movie, Dark Mind has a strong female protagonist, lots of scenes of women in danger, and a prevailing darkness despite the exotic locale. By the end, most threads are neatly tied, while one retains the promise of more books to come.Disclosure: I responded to the author's request on Book Blogs and received a free ecopy to review.

Excellent story - Disappointing editing
Really enjoyed the storyline but enjoyment spoiled by very poor editing. Wrong words used which completely confused story, very difficult to understand at times. I'msure author would be devastated to hear how badly her book was treated. Please try to get message to editor/proof readers to do better job.
