This comic series is at once faithful to the original 90s television series and a mature evolution of it. Without the rose-tinted lenses of nostalgia, it's plain to see that the 90s Rangers experiences little in the way of character development. They were archetypes. They still are in this comic, but there's more growth in one volume than there was in entire seasons of the show.Unlike the recent film, which completely altered aspects of our main characters to the point that they were the original five in name only, this series expertly manages to make them feel both fresh and familiar.Rita, too, is greater than she was. She's still comical, but she's also threatening, manipulative, and devious.If you were a fan of MMPR in the 90s, this is worth checking out. Welcome to Angel Grove. Home to the Power Rangers and weekly monster attacks. Tommy Oliver was the new kid in town when evil doer, Rita Repulsa, swooped in and made him the Green Ranger. Now, free from her mind control, Tommy struggles to find balance between the plights of high school, making new friends, and the dangers that come with being a hero. Writer Kyle Higgins (C.O.W.L., Nightwing) and artist Hendry Prasetya (Voodoo vs. Green Lantern) explore the untold story in the life of the Green Ranger as he struggles to overcome his demons and learns to trust again. it's a great look at the power rangers as we see the green ranger struggling to adjust to his new life and powers after he is freed from rita repulsa but when she starts tormenting him from within his own mind will he have the strength to face her down so he can finally get control of his powers and will the other rangers trust him when they find out that rita is still messing with his head tensions are high on and off the battlefield but when rita manages to take over the dragon zord using a fake dragon dagger and a mysterious crystal that grows stronger by absorbing the chaos energy around it will the rangers band together to stop her or will her evil plans finally bring an end to the power rangers. all in a great story with well thought out writing plus the artwork and coloring are superb!. plus the comic also has adventures about bulk and skull as they try to achieve fame and glory by kidnapping a puddy patroller and setting it loose on the town. and at the end we see all the different covers that have used for the issues of this comic book series

A great step beyond the show. Adds a whole new and welcome layer. I’ve read it twice already. Pretty enjoyable

I really enjoyed this Power Rangers Volume 1, its full of great art work, good story telling and its very respectful of the 90s TV show. This story picks up after season 3 when the Green Ranger is defeated by the Red Ranger Tommy and he joins the Power Rangers. I can't wait to see what happens in Volume 2. If you are new to the MMPR Universe you should check out the original episoids so your not too lost. It would have helped a bit if the comic gave a little back story for new readers.

Before I start talking about what I liked about the book and a synopsis of the plot, let me start by saying the book is a lot thicker than what an average 144 page comic usually is. The quality used to make this trade is great, really sturdy, glossy and the pages feel nice and thick. Also it's nice that the coloring is so nice and bright from page to page. This collects the #0 issue which was a prelude to the actual #1, and #1-4, so 5 issues in total with a few mini comics about bulk and skullThis book is certainly written like it's for fans of the original show when it aired on tv. It assumes you know the five rangers and their quirks and personalities, that Jason is the leader, Trini the wise one, Billy the tech guy, etc. kind of like how everyone knows the tmnt personalities. Higgins chose an interesting(if not odd) point to start the story. It starts basically RIGHT after Jason beat Tommy and freed him from Rita's spell. To me this is both a good and bad thing. It's good cause it doesn't waste time and it gets to some interesting storytelling right away, it's bad cause I feel like it's a wasted opportunity for other good storytelling.Like I said, it's written for past power rangers fans who've grown up, and a lot of them could tell you that the green with evil arc was arguably the best arc out of the first 3 seasons. It just feels like skipping over 1 really good story to get to another good story. Higgins likes Tommy, and it shows. The back of the trade even says "Green Ranger Year One...". And I get it. Tommy is a better character as a hero, than a villain under mind control. But he's not the only hero. There was an original team of 5 before he showed up. Sure he whooped their asses like 3-4 times in a row but they eventually beat him. I just felt like Higgins rushed and brushed off like 1-2 trades worth of retelling the green with evil arc from the showOnto some of the really good stuff so I don't make my 4 star rating confusing. This is a good story. Tommy is struggling to fight off a Tyler Durden version of Rita in his head that keeps bothering him, and trying to veer him back to the dark side. The other rangers are also adjusting to having a new member that they hardly know join up. The OG 5 members know tactics and code words when in battle, but Tommy just scratches his head when he hears these terms, and that causes friction when he tries to do his own thing. Tommy feels really real, so do billy, Kim, Trini and Jason. Zack kind of gets the short end of the stick and doesn't get much development outside of distrusting Tommy. There's a lot of drama within the clique now that Tommy is onboard, for better or worse. One bit I liked that was kept was that Jason teaches karate in his spare time. Also he seems a bit jealous of Kim and Tommy possibly being a coupleThe action is good, dialogue is great, and the bulk and skull bits at the end. This is the kind of drama and more in depth look at what Rita's mind control PTSD would look like in a more adult version of the showDefinitely looking forward to volume 2

Dopo la delusione per la sospensione della pubblicazione italiana da parte di Panini Comics, ho deciso di prendere tutta la serie orginale del Boom! Studios. La storia sin da questo primo volume è coinvolgente, più dark e adulta. Personaggi ben caratterizzati e umanizzati, sia per quel che riguarda le forze del bene che del male. I disegni sono davvero straordinari. Un inizio esplosivo

Ótimo reboot pra saga, trazendo a série original pros dias de hoje. Ação incrível. Muito legal ver os Rangers usando mais os zords individualmente ao invés de sempre partir logo pro MegaZord.

Must have for any fan of the original series, and for anyone else who was as crushed as I was when Jason, Trini and Zach left the showbut thankfully they are all here in the book and I wouldnt have it any other waythe artwork is amazing and the creators really have a good time doing things in the book that couldnt be done in the actual show, these are the stories that fans of the original series thought "wouldnt it be cool if..." while watching the original seriesthis was a really fun read and is highly recommended to any fan of season 1 of MMPR

A great read from start to finish, this series is set shortly after the iconic Green With Evil storyline from the first season of MMPR but updates the setting to modern times. I love the artwork and enjoy the new depth that this brings to the Rangers as a team as they adjust to a new team member who is working through his own issues, while Bulk & Skull evolve from stereotypical bullies to enterprising video bloggers running a show about the Power Rangers. Very fun to read, and I can't help but picture the characters reading the lines like the actors from the original show.
