I 100% disagree with the following "critical" review...""The amazing thing about BLAME! is that it's such a good read even though it has almost no story or characters. It's all about the art and the experience of being there, of not knowing what will happen next, of the contrast between landscapes of endless sameness and bloody eruptions of chaos and gore." - Jason Thompson, Manga Encyclopedia "wrong, wrong wrong... no. this is a story told through visual media. There is very little dialog, but it is RICH in story and characters. Kiri is unbelievably memorable. He has a history, a goal that is clear, a personality, and an obvious method to which he will stop at nothing to accomplish what he set out to do. There is mystery, adventure, romance (yes, romance), and a moral tale... The most amazing thing about this series is the scope of time and space that it involves...SPOILERSIf you pay close attention, you will realize that the setting is a "city" that is really a dyson sphere from a type 2 civilization that has harnessed the complete energy output of our sun. This is made clear in a number of ways but most obviously in an an encounter between Kiri and one of the synthetics (the watcher/observer) who makes a comment about how they are visually watching a settlement of humans at a distance equal to the distance 88,000 ,miles (and all INSIDE a single room within the city). The city itself is implied to stretch from the lowest level (the level facing the sun) all the way out to the Ort Cloud (thousands of AU from the sun...). It is MIND BLOWING.The story is primarily told through a visual lens with only the occasional dialogue to drop major pieces of information. It is subtle and intentional story telling (and Jason misses the mark so bad I question how they ever became a "critic").If you love story telling, pondering the nature of everything, imaging the vastness of space and time (as the adventure of Kiri spans hundreds of thousands of years)... than this is a MUST HAVE manga. The art is amazing, the story is incredible, the characters are so memorable you will not forget their names... it is a master work of true science fiction and worth your time.100% recommend... 100% disagree with Jason's take... shame... he got paid for that...

Each page left my brain electrified, wondering, and lacking words to describe my emotions . Purely amazing . Beyond any genre

The book itself is quite large, with page dimensions bigger than a typical manga or book. The paper quality is excellent and very pleasant to the touch. While this manga is on the pricier side compared to others, I feel it's worth it. The redraws are very well done, and it has more pages than your average manga, equivalent to about four volumes of other manga. Overall, it's a great product, and I’ll definitely be completing the collection! :)

The environments in the manga showcasing these massive towering buildings and structures are the true star. With a minimal story every panel is rich with amazing art. There is colored panel in the middle that looked incredible. Only con is that the print of the pages stains your fingers like a newspaper and the spine was crinkled and some mild creases but overall in good shape.

Extremely intricate story build-up around the idea of a post-human world.Art isn't clean as your usual manga, but they are drawn in a way where all actions and emotions are conveyed well.

I bought this Master Edition of BLAME! because I like the artwork of Tsutomu Nihei (and many other manga artists). I learned of his detailed artwork and unusually limited verbal manga work due to another series he did called BIOMEGA. I enjoyed that one so much that I picked up an anime he did called BLAME! (of course). So I had to seek out the manga that was the source of this movie and found it for a reasonable price on Amazon.com,( but how can you put a price tag on a brilliant work of art?). I like how he works his characters into situations that you have to find out what the heck is going on by perusing his artwork and limited stints of characters speaking throughout. This is of course a manga, so you start the story from the back of the book and move towards the ending of the volume at the front of the book (as mangas do). Tsutomu melds a lot of his characters into backgrounds and buildings that organically interact with them and provide a lot of story information. Each panel is beautifully rendered in black and white and I am at the point of ordering the second Master Edition which came out on December 13th, 2016. I believe you will enjoy it (so far) and if it follows the same story telling as BIOMEGA did, you won't figure out the ending until the final Master Edition due out in June of 2017. And if you get a chance, find and purchase the anime for this series on Amazon.com's website. another reviewer pointed out that it was like a David Lynch film. I couldn't agree more and the manga would probably be as David Lynch would write and draw. Get this series. The Master Editions aren't cheap, but like I said, how do you put a price on a great work of art.
