Q: Can the marantz nr1711 at 50 watts power the polk r400 and in ceiling surrounds? i have an external amp powering the left and right channel.

Hello, the Marantz NR1711 will be up to the task and will fit right into this proposed system. The Polk Audio R400 center channel recommended Amplification is 20 - 200W with a sensitivity rating of 89db. These specifications fall perfectly within the capabilities of the Marantz NR1711.

Hello, please consider our R300 center channel as it is a sealed enclosure and may work best in a cabinet. Our R400 has two rear firing X-Ports. The R400 will work in a cabinet but may have increased bass. Most modern receivers will have the ability to set a desired crossover point to help with the playback response.

Q: How much weight can the r400 bear on top of it? i would like to stand my tv (sony x85x95k) on top of it.

I don’t think It would be an issue to put a TV on top of it. It’s very solid.
