Hummingbird Feeder 72OZ

If you like hummingbirds and have a lot of them then this is the feeder for you. It holds a lot of food but we are having to refill every third day. 72 oz. Done want to keep it in there too long. Recommended for large numbers of birds.

Have to start with the fact that I did love this dinger due to its size. This 72oz feeder saved me every week from having to fill all of my other feeders every day or twice a day. It was a short 6 months of using this dinger before the top started to crack where the hook connects (due to how heavy it is, I assume). This crack sucks air when it is hanging from the hook and causes a constant leak (losing 72oz of feed). Maybe this should have a rope basket similar to a hanging pot, instead of just a thin metal hook on weak plastic. I did try to contact the seller and tell them about this, with hopes they'd replace it or at least get some information of how mine broke so quickly. They were not very helpful, telling me that I only have 30 days for a warranty. I hate making bad reviews, but I also hate when sellers don't take care of their bad/faulty products for their customers. So, here is what happened to me.

I have hundreds of hummingbirds coming to my house in the summer. I have 6 feeders out, and I went out of town recently. In two days, they were dry, and I felt terrible when I got home. The hummingbirds are going through about a gallon a day in nectar. I bought this one so I can hopefully go out of town without worrying. I will probably buy more than one so I don't have to refill as often. This is the biggest feeder I have found. It is lightweight, even though it is big. And I was worried that the wording on the front would not come off, as shown in the photo, but I easily peeled it off, leaving the bottle clear. As soon as I put this feeder up, I had a hummingbird on it within less than a minute. They love it. Be sure that if you are making nectar, you only use regular sugar (not organic, because it goes bad and they don't like it), and that you use only sugar and water, not any of that chemical coloring stuff. 1 part sugar to 4 parts water. Even though I go through a ton of nectar, it is really not expensive feeding these beauties, and they bring so much pleasure and desperately need help in the hot summer months.

I was lucky getting mine, it was in a box and all there. It didn't leak....at least not yet. Mine was not cracked on top by the hook......yet. All in all the worst design I could imagine. Hard to clean, has built in weak points in the design, you need tools to get the base open to clean it. There is a seam right above the perch you need to wedge apart, I used a very small screw driver. near a perch attachment piece. Good luck on getting inside the bottle. I really bought it for use while I was away. i have no plans to use it routinely. If I was going to use it routine/y, I would get two part plastic mender like epoxy and spread it would the hook area to keep in from ever cracking there from the weight.

Good quality, does not leak, easy to clean, worth every penny, I never run out for the hummingbirds

While I like the quantity of hummingbird juice this feeder holds, I have A few main issues and am returning it. 1. Eventually, mold can start to grow inside the bottle on these feeders, so I use a bottle brush to clean them, but the inlet of this bottle is so small that I cannot scrub the inside of the bottle. Mold makes the little birdies sick, so this won't do. 2. They couldn't even give the base realistic looking flowers, just little painted on spots that the birds took a while to figure out. 3. It's a bit of a pain to take the base apart for cleaning. Not a big huge pain, but could be better.

As you can see, I have quite a few feeders. The 3 that I ordered on Amazon, I them better than my old ones. They are plastic. I don’t know if they’re BPH free I do like the way they come apart and they’re easy to clean. I like that they hold 72 ounces of sugar water. And I would order these again. As my old ones wear out, I will replace them with the Humdinger feeders. I have a lot of hummingbirds. I have been feeding them for 40 years. And I think they told their other relatives where we are. Lol I also live in the country. I have a lot of flowers. And I have a ornamental pond that runs a waterfall. I don’t know if they like the sound of that but I have a lot of trees in my yard and they seem to play in my trees. I use 4 cups of water to one cup of white sugar. Nothing else. I do not boil the water and sugar. I use hot water to mix with the sugar so it dissolves and mixes well. I wait until it cools a bit. And then I start hanging them up on the hooks. I also use ant guards. Which I ordered off of Amazon. And they work.

As previously mentioned, this feeder has a weak point where the hanging hook is attached to the feeder. This feeder should come with a tube of supper glue and instructions to repair this defect. A poorly designed feeder and amazon shipping in basically a paper bag just exacerbates the problem. Don't waste your money!
