A good textbook
My copy had some writing on some pages, and that could have been pointed out better.

Very good for IGCSE Cambridge
This book is very good for IGCSE Cambridge exams if you are homeschooling. It covers virtually all the information you need for the syllabus. It's quite a thick book but IGCSE Cambridge students will be pleased to know that there is a huge section on the British depth study that you can ignore as long as the current syllabus remains relevant. Nonetheless this book provides lots of focus tasks, sources and exercises. The only thing missing from this book are summaries at the end of each section: summaries just help put everything in perspective and help jog your memory in revision so they would be much appreciated in any future editions or on a CD. It would also have been a little more appreciated if the hard cover version was cheaper; as of today, it costs £306.00 new from Amazon. If you intend to keep this book for other kids, try get the hardcover if pricing improves so it lasts longer. To be on the safe side, I'd recommend that for your depth study you also get the relevant SHP depth study texts by Hodder.

A lot of objective info, but sometimes the info doesn't match each other.
I use this book a lot for my weekly history lessons. It's great, since it has a lot of information, and all of it (95% I would say) is objective. By this I mean the book doesn't prefer one side over another. Yet the problem with this book is the misguiding information it gives. Sometime you will experience a fact on one page, and then on the next page it says something completely different. E.g. on one page it would say that Germany had 1.5 million soldiers in 1914, and 2 pages further on it said that the Germans had +-800 soldiers in 1914.. but apart from this great book, with a lot of great information! (and a loooot of sources!!)

GCSE Modern World History
Although this book is not for the latest GCSE History course (2011/2012)some of the information it contains you simply can not find anywhere else. It covers everything needed for year 10 and some aspects required in year 11. This is a great compliment to the revision books that are out there for the new course. It also gives a good background to what the GSCE course covers and so can be benifical that way.If you are really interested in modern world history and are thinking A* then this book is a good addition to the revision guides but would not work as a stand alone book for GCSE History.
