Works forward and reverse directions!
I am in the process of restoring an large old Buddha (most likely teak) statue gifted to me many years ago. To my horror when i visited home agian after many years, I fould it was polished with a powder additive that gave it a painted finish - all the original wood grain i had seen it with was lost.Tried paint strippers - not useful on curved surfaces, becomes sticky and messy. Lacquer tinner as recommebd by the local store worked ok - esp on details like faces, but the mess was even greater and working with chemicals was not kosher long term. I found a cheap Harbor Freight tool i had that worked wonderfully, but the curved surafecs were hard to get...esp deep ones.Sanding was an option but the layer was very deep .5mmLooking around, i found this and was eager to try it the moment it arrived. tried at a bottom/ hidden surfaces. I found that a forward push kept jerking and at any angle there was opportunity to scratch. However, instinctively i tried a reverse pull... that worked wonders and i could uncover large areas quickly. Quite a game changer.Nett - if you have varied profiles this tool is great - and easy to use. The blade shapes make it versatile and the hand grip is good too.

I am sticking with ALLWAY all the way!
I had a small Allway scraper that I love using. It's only like an 1" wide, but I use it over the 2 1/2" scraper (not an Allway), because it works so well. So, I purchased this set because of the brand. This set is great, and it comes with a plastic pack to store the blades on. I recommend Allway brand... and it's made in the USA!

Great scrapers
Great little scraper. Easy to change heads and to sharpen the blades. Handle is comfortable, even after using for several hours. Would buy again.

Not sharp out of the box - not a problem.
These have a rough finish out of the box, but getting a knife edge is 1.) not super necessary unless you really are going for that hand-scraped finish and 2.) adds a TON to the cost. But this tool comes with a magnetically held fine cut file in the handle. It's roughly finished too, but it works perfectly. The steel on the irons is good, but not great. It does need regular touching up, more than a carbide scraper (obviously) but this is 1.) far more reusable, and 2.) can be finely set to whatever you want to do.I can use the file to put a nice hooked burr on the edge for heavy paint/finish removal (I have been using it to strip heavy, dense paint from an ikea chair) and then put it to a stone and strop for a fine edge that doesn't last very long, but will leave a lovely hand-scraped fine cut finish. It's honestly a lot like a cabinet scraper but easier to use and a little more versatile.I have precisely three gripes, all minor.1.) there's no "flat" edge. One is close, but it's still ground like a scrub plane blade. This isn't hard to fix, within a few sharpenings on the file, you can square up that edge and just leave the corners rounded so it doesn't create stripes like the carbide scraper does.2.) The included file works to undo the screw holding the blade in, but only just. It doesn't feel very nice to use, though works fine. They should grind the tail of the file into a screwdriver flat (it's what I did)3.) the screw holding the blade is JUST too big to slip the blade over. This would have made quick-changing blades far, far easier, but it's just a HAIR too big. I might file it down eventually, but if they made it about 1/16th of an inch narrower in diameter, it wouldn't have affected performance negatively, and would let you change blades only by loosening the screw, rather than removing it.Again, all of these are minor. This thing is a godsend tool. I like having both a carbide scraper with disposable blades and this, but push to shove, I reach for this one five times as often for the finer detail furniture work I do. This set to a heavy cut and a card scraper set to a fine cut are basically the only things you need for furniture refinishing.
