Love Jessica Sepel's Approach to the Healthy Life
I love this book - it's just beautifully laid out and very easy to understand with worksheets - love that!! I saw JS on the Today Show and I really liked and could relate to her balanced approach to eating. She has a relaxed style and healthy recipes that are a cinch to make. Her coconut granola mix is the easiest and tastiest that I have ever tried. I also love that she believes in "throwing out the scale." I mean how sick are you of being so stressed out about what that number is and then feeling terribly guilty after seeing it? For example, ever since I hit pre-menopause and mid-40's, I have gained about 12 pounds that just won't budge no matter what I do. I eat healthy and exercise consistently yet the weight still will not come off. And yes, I do watch my calories very carefully. So what gives??That's the main reason I purchased this book. I'm going to use Jessica's approach to ditching that scale, letting go of the guilt, and just focus on healthy, balanced eating. I'm also going to stop tracking and obsessing over each and every calorie. Sure, it can help to use a calorie-tracking app like Lose It! which is really easy to use but I'm just so fed up of logging in each and every bite that I put in my mouth. This just causes me to obsess more about food and when I can eat next! It's annoying and tiring and I'm just done, done, done!My first week will consist of Jessica's 7 day weight loss plan or detox plan which is detailed very nicely in the book. It explains exactly what to eat and when. And I'm glad that grains are on the menu.I completely agree with Jessica concerning Fad diets...even the incredibly popular KETO diet...it's just not balanced. I have never had any luck with Fad diets where whole food groups are off-limits. It just doesn't work in the long term - at least not for me anyway.I have tried so many different approaches to losing this stubborn weight and it is just so exhausting - I mean just like Jessica, I have literally tried every "diet" out there: Nutrisystem (worked for a while but the food was so processed it didn't agree with me), WW (I got sick of counting points), Keto (too much fat and no carbs - ketosis?!), Metabolism Reset (liked this the most but after 1 week, I just couldn't tackle another shake that tasted like drinking dirt), Dr. Oz Rapid Weight Loss (I lost muscle instead of fat which was a disaster and I got sick of eating nothing but vegetables; I gained all the weight back and then some), Whole 30 (again, no carbs at all not even healthy legumes like black beans and chickpeas which are good for you - and no smoothies! just too restrictive...)See what I'm getting at here? Jessica is right - none of these approaches works because they are not remotely realistic and they're going to cause you to binge at some point. How can you enjoy your life and feel fulfilled when you are so restricted by how you nourish your body?!! Anyway, I'm super-excited to get started on this completely new and refreshing journey to better health and hopefully some weight loss too. I will update this post next Monday after my first week with Jessica is completed to share my results.

A great wellness and nutrition guide with recipes!
This book is amazing. I own several other ones like it that are also good, but this is in the top 3 of books that I refer back to time and time again. It was very relevant to me and I found Jessica had bags of helpful information in her book and some really good recipes. It's more than just a cook book of which so many options are available right now, hers is a full on wellness guide, with nutrition education and some recipes thrown in for good measure. She deserves to be as well known as Deliciously Ella or Joe Wicks and her book is definitely worth buying.
