I Love DS!
I didn't rate the "sheerness" of this pigment since it's semi-transparent. I don't think that's a good indicator as to it being a quality paint when you WANT it to be semi-transparent.All Daniel Smith paint is fabulous to work with. I'm especially fond of the PrimaTek line. Daniel Smith was the FIRST company that provided information regarding the pigments used in their paints, long before any other company gave that information. I trust Daniel Smith and know you can as well.

Neutral brown. Unique color not found many places
Goethite — a granulating neutral brown color. A more neutral less orange version of Daniel Smith’s raw sienna. A nice neutral unique brown color.

Different option for an earthy color
It’s quite staining and opaque. It granulates a little bit

The downside of Daniel Smith Paints
I do like Daniel Smith pigments for watercolor. That said, they are pricey. I think they are worth the price … if only: I wish these tubes were sealed at the opening. With those thin metal covers so you know no one has “sampled the tube you’re buying. Also, sometimes, when you get it, there can be dents on the tube outside, which make it appear that small amounts have been used. Not good if you’re buying a new tube full price. Other times, the paint isn’t mixed well in the tube, and out spurts clear gum arabic mixture, while the pigment is sitting at the bottom. Or, you remove the top and all the pigment bursts out and keeps coming! So, unless you have an empty pan or container ready it becomes an oozing mess. The paint when mix well is nice. Sometimes doesn’t move quickly, react with water like other brands. To end on a positive note, Daniel Smith paints are one of perhaps the top five worlds best professional artist watercolor brands. And they have one of the largest/widest selection of colors, granulations, natural mineral based pigments and the range of values from each are great. Just some things mentioned that really irk me about this brand of paints. The best can always improve.
