Purchase with ease, a must have for Opal Ice maker owners.
Excellent product and addition to the Opal Ice Maker. I will not run mine anymore without a filter attached after a long stint of my machine making all sorts of awful noises. After cleaning and switching to a filter I havent had the same problems return. The filter fits perfectly, is easy to install and is a really intuitive design. All of the ice that the machine produces tastes great and I couldnt think of a better way to spend my money to protect my expensive ice machine

Seems to work great
This filter seems to work really well. My ice doesn’t have a smell or taste to it, and the machine itself doesn’t have excess scaling going on inside, so I’d say the filter is doing its job well. It’s very easy and simple to install into your ice maker, just fully remove the ice bucket and locate the wire mesh screen inside on the upper left area where the recycled water is at. Remove that screen (this was very difficult for me because mine was in there really tightly, and I didn’t want to break this screen, so I ended up having to use a butter knife to wedge in between and pry the screen out gently) once the screen is removed, align the tip of the filter with that hole where the screen was, keep it held there and lower the filter down into the water area, keeping it vertical and flush against the left side of the reservoir and push down and inward until you hear and feel it click in. It’ll be obvious when it’s correctly and properly installed. There is no sort of soaking or rinsing required for this filter, it can go straight into your machine from the package (wash it after removing from the plastic shrink wrap though)

Genuine GE OEM Replacement Water Filter Restores Perfect, Delicious Chewable Ice
GE Profile Opal is the leader in chewable nugget ice machines. In order to maintain the delicious chewable ice, the machine alerts you when to change the filter. This is the filter made specifically for the GE Profile Opal. You are guaranteed to restore that wonderful, delicious chewable ice with no after flavors when you simply snap this filter in place. It cleans & filters all water, both in the primary water tank, and also in the side auxiliary tank. I love the peace of mind, knowing the flavor will always be consistently restored to new, just by snapping in this OEM filter. Highly recommended!

Problems with Scale Inhibitor Filter
We own two GE Opal 2.0 ice makers using very different sources of water. One is high desert municipality and the other is New England well. We filter both. The well water is conditioned by a whole house softener. Neither location has hard water (after conditioning). However, we decided to use the standard (white) charcoal filters for additional filtration. Mainly for peace of mind inside the reservoir, as the water is recycled a bit. The results were fine. No additional problems and no increased noise.Opal ice makers units are intrinsically problematic, poorly designed, and fundamentally difficult to fully clean/descale. They produce lots of noises, but loudest and more frequently around “cleaning time”.I was going to purchase another charcoal filter (white) and saw another filter option for purchase… The scale inhibitor version (blue). I decided to use it instead on one of the machines.I removed the three month old charcoal filter (white), soaked/descaled for 24 hours, rinsed fully, shocked the entire system with a bleach solution, rinsed fully, installed the new scale inhibitor filter (blue), refilled the machine with water, and started use.The results are/were surprising and very disappointing! Within two days the machine started producing the loudest agonizing noises within minutes of turning on the ice making cycle. The bottom line, the scale inhibiting filter (blue) restricts water from getting to the upper internal water reservoir, in turn preventing water from flowing into the rotary ice making mechanism!!! This filter is a complete failure… and in our case would probably destroy the machine!!!Once the scale inhibiting (blue) filter was removed, the machine operated normally and without any noise!!!I will likely start using the standard charcoal filters (white) again.

Undetermined effectiveness
I want to believe this is doing what it needs to be doing to clean the water and keep the machine from building up with hard water deposits, but not yet sure.It definitely reduces water flow but it doesn’t seem to impact ice production directly. I already use filtered water for the machine so this was an additional protection barrier.
