This book, changed my life. It took me time to process every chapter. Well informed and written.

Iyanla Vanzant is one of the best healers. She is also a genius. In this dense and powerful book, she teaches us how to align with the divine teacher within through personal anecdotes, history, and a range of disciplines including Christianity, Yoruba culture, A Course in Miracles, and meditation techniques. She is one of the few popular spiritualists who has the courage to discuss the impact of racism on the spirit and consciousness of Black people, and her honesty about these traumas is most explicit in her earlier books like The Spirit of a Man.I’m a woman who thought I was buying this book for my partner, but it turns out it was for me. (In fact, by loving and healing ourselves, we love and heal our partners). This book worked best for me in small doses a day over an extended period of time. Thank you Iyanla for being a true teacher of Christ consciousness.

I purchased two of these books because I love Iyanla and I also wanted to get my fiance a gift that will help him in his spiritual growth. He and I love to have deep insightful conversations and this book is a great resource. We read it together and have discussion about some of the topics Iyanla addresses. This book creates a platform or space for me to get to know my man in a very intimate spiritual way. This gives my fiance an opportunity to share who he is with me and let his voice be heard as a black man. I have the opportunity to listen, be his best friend, and empower him with my words of wisdom. We are truly getting to know the fullness of each other before we walk down that aisle. Reading this book helps us have those difficult conversations that most are afraid to tackle.

I recieved the book earlier then expected which was great as we couldn't wait to begin reading it.The content of the book is well written and has given insight to grounding black men spiritually to who they are and how to be.

The book tells of the struggles of the Black Man and how we as Black Women should deal with them in a loving way. This read is for anyone that is in a relationship and need understanding of how to love and nurture your man. All relationships are different and not all the chapters will touch you in a personal way. But it will be a guide to 'think before you speak'.
