I previously bought a gate with a pet door because I have two cats but there are very very few gates with pet doors and they didn't come in the size I needed. Even with extensions, the gates with the pets doors were either too small or too big for my hallway. I got this gate with the medium extension. It fits my hallway perfectly and I like that it's extra tall so when my little one gets alittle older and alittle taller he won't be tall enough to reach and climb over. I'm still waiting/dredding for the first time he'll be able to and will climb out of his crib. My only problem with this gate is that it doesn't have a stay open option BUT as I am alittle OCD when it comes to the safety of my kid, I'll deal since it fits perfectly. I just hope my cats learn to jump over this thing now.

It does it's job and I like the hight. It is tough to get used to in the beginning to open, but that can be a good thing. We were broken into in the middle of the night, and I think the only thing that kept the bad guys out of the rest of the house was that they could not figure out how to open the gate!! It was easy to put up and it looks much better than our old one and is very easy to clean as well.

When I finally got what I ordered (Amazon's issue not the product itself) it went up easily and has kept my pup safe and out of trouble while training.

Nice tall gate (no escapees going over the wall anymore) and clicks in nicely and seats firmly so that it won't open when pushed against. My main problem with it though is that there is no "stay open point" as with my other gates. Once you let go of it, it bangs shut will quite a lot of force. This is a concern with my little puppies in our puppyland. I worry about one of them scooting through my feet and having the gate swat them on its way shut. And, I have to hang a bungee cord up so I can hook it open when I need to go in and out frequently during puppyland cleaning. Trying to wrestle a vacuum and scrubber in through the gate while trying to hold it open is hard. My other gates had a point when the gate was fully open that it would stay open and not bang shut. I always found that helpful when carrying things in and out. Nice sturdy gate and I will continue to use it, but sure wish it had the "stay open" point that my other have.

I really like this gate. It's reliable and easy to use. It opens in either direction and does not stand open, so it's convenient to moved back and forth thru without having to work to shut it behind you. It's a little trickier than I'd prefer to get open. You really do need one free hand, and I often am holding things in both hands. But it's well designed to keep dogs and babies from being able to climb over it. I'm amazed at gates that have a horizontal bar, which just acts as a ladder rung for climbing. This is all smooth verticals and rather taller than most gates. It's actually quite a bit more than I need, since we only have a little shih tzu who isn't exactly athletic. It's a little annoying that the extension is so expensive. But it all went together smoothly and installed easily. Check it now and then. Any tension gate will tend to get a little loose with usage.EDIT: I'm boosting this to five stars. I've taken to letting it close gently a lot of times to avoid it latching. Then I can get thru it again with both hands full. I'm considering putting a little pad to keep from latching most of the time.

I would give this a 10 star review if I could!!! I've bought lots and lots of gates and been sadly disappointed in most. I have giant dogs and dogs less than 5 lbs. The last gates I've had, my littlest dogs could squeeze right on through the bars, especially the curved outer bars. This one doesn't have those and the spaces are tight enough that none of my dogs can get through it. The other problem I've had is the small doors in a lot of gates. This door is almost as wide as the gate itself. 22 inches wide!!! I can get my laundry basket and other things through this door!!! I'm not going to be embarrassing anyone who might be a bit larger. Before, some people could not quite make it through my openings. This gate also closes easily and quietly with a light swing. You will have to pull the button and lift the gate to open it. This makes it secure for kids and dogs, but opens easily with one hand for adults. I've going to buy more of these!!!

The media could not be loaded.  This gate might work if you don't need extensions and screw it to the wall. With the tension mount, after 2 weeks of normal use at the bottom of our stairs, it became misaligned, made a horrible noise, and didn't close properly. I contacted Cardinal Gates customer service to see how to repair and they wrote back that they would respond soon, but I never heard from them. I exchanged it for another, which again started having issues within 2 weeks. I returned it. I have their "Stairway Special" gate at the top of our stairs, which is much more reliable, so I bought another one of those.

i went store to store looking for the "perfect" pet gate, since i have purchased 5 different ones in the past, i knew what i wanted. Finally decided to look on Amazon and found this one. I really like that it is made of metal, you wouldn't think a dog or a cat would chew on the wood ones, but mine did, resulting in a nasty splinter in the cats mouth, and a very expensive after hours trip to the vet, not to mention the trauma it caused my cat. I also like that its a dark color, may seem silly but after years of the ugly wood and plastic ones sticking out like a sore thumb, its nice to have one that blends in or fades away into the background. I seems to be very sturdy and well made, and i really like that the door can swing in either direction as its surprising so many of them don't? Overall definitely worth the money, I'm going to order a second one so i can throw out the other wood one.

I liked the easy installation. I like the auto close feature, the height is perfect. The appearance is nice as well but the handle part lifted off because the screw was completely stripped, we’ve only had it up for two days. Fixed it with some glue. It keeps my dogs back which was the purpose for buying.
