How long is the cable between the XLR plug and the microphone?

I don't know exactly but a good 2 metres.. we have 6 of these for a brass group I am in and add another 3 metre xlr to connect it to the desk.

How does this attach to your instrument? Could i use it on a hand pan?

This has a 3 pin plug and is compatible with the Roland JDXi Synthesizer. I bought it to replace the original Roland mic which stopped working. You would need gear with a compatible 3 pin socket for it to work but, it’s a very good mic.

Can the cable be disconnected at the mic end? I want to be able to leave the mic permanently connected to my instrument.

Yes. It is conected by an XLR cable, however, I wasn't aware that the mic needs a phantom power source. I thought I could just plug it into an amp, but it won't work that way.
