Steel Cut Oats (Steelcut) 5 Pounds (Oat Groats, Irish Oatmeal), USDA Certified Organic, Non-GMO, Bulk, Mulberry Lane Farms

First, let me just say that these oats are delicious (more on preparation later in the review)!!!!! I have tried many of the popular commercial brands and the Mulberry Lane Farms oats have such a great taste and texture they are delicious and I highly recommend them over the name brands. Plus you get to help out the actual farmer directly!!I was hesitant at first to order this product since I am used to the quick cooking style of oatmeal and wasn't sure that I wanted to tackle the issues with a longer cook time. However, after reading up online how to prepare these and experimenting a couple of times, I found a very easy way to prep them so the cook time is actually only 3-5 minutes. So here how I prep and cook my oats for breakfast!Prep and cooking for 1 serving:The night before, Put approx 2/3 cup per serving/person into a stove top pot.Pour enough water to cover the uncooked oats with about 1/2 -1 inch of water over the top of the oats.Stir to mix water and oats.Let oats sit overnight on stovetop (unheated) or wherever is convenient and out of the way. An 8 hour soak should be plenty.Prior to cooking, strain the water out of the pot, rinse and strain a second time, leaving the oats n the original pot. I use the back of a plate or bowl to do this, depending on the size of the pot. The oats are surprisingly light, fluffy and non-sticky at this point.Place oats on burner and fill with water to just over the level of the oats in the pot.Heat to boiling, lower heat to simmer, let cook for 3-5 minutes.Remove from heat and let sit for a couple of minutes to firm up.Add you favorite ingredients. I usually add a pinch of salt, some sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon (the cinnamon is a really nice touch I found out today!) and a bit of milk (or your favorite substitute) and some fruit or nuts as available.Stir in and enjoy.It really is super delicious!!!I looked far and wide online and experimented with some techniques, but this overnight soak and the short cook time in the morning came out to be the easiest and the best tasting in my opinion.So moral of the story, you can literally be eating breakfast in 5 minutes if you plan ahead the night before.

I love, love, love these oats. For those new to steel cut oats - be advised - these are not the mushy, soft texture of instant oatmeal. I really enjoy the firmer texture actually feeling the oats in every bite rather than mushiness of instant. They are great mixed with yogurt but I really enjoy the flavor just eaten plain. My one year old loves them. My husband loves them. An overall hit and staple in my house.

It’s a great way to start your day.

Three (3) separate occasions we have found 1-2mm diameter pebbles (rocks) in the oats mixture. No broken or chipped teeth yet but very annoying. This company is not afraid to charger extra for the USDA Organic symbol on their label so, I would expect they could use the income to filter the debris out of the mix.

I was very pleased to receive steel cut oatmeal in bulk especially organic and for such a reasonable price. I put it in crockpot overnight and have a great breakfast ready when I wake!

The taste is great, the texture is good, the value for the money is very good, the flavor is very good I like to mix my yogurt in it in the morning with my fruit and it is a delicious mix

I bought this after searching for an organic brand. I have purchased the 5lb. bag 3 times, now, and have not been disappointed. The oats are easy to cook and have a great flavor. I will definitely continue to use this brand.
