This is probably the best way to rewatch the original series on modern hardware
I bought both set one set too, and they’re really really good. My only issue was that the second set had to be returned because it’s supposed to contain disc three and disc four, but it had two copies of disk 3. I have returned it and I’m purchasing another one so hopefully I don’t have that happen again, I really wanna finish the series so I can watch the later things. 😅

Why is collection 2 of this awesome series not available on Amazon?
Always wanted this original series for my collection of gundam series I already own. Shame I have to mix the dvd sets with the new Blu-ray sets. Really can’t afford to rebuy everything on Blu-ray. Years ago I was only able to get the three movie set English dubbed. Back then I knew I was missing a lot , so I looked for the series and couldn’t find it. However once I did it was always way too expensive. When anime started to drop in prices I was able to get much of the other series’ that were available. But now anime prices are jumping back up to crazy amounts again and forcing people to greatly slim down their choices and purchases. Even forcing people to forgo owning what they like and planting themselves on online sites to watch them. (As long as the site keeps the series the people want to watch whenever). So I’m closing, I love that I can finally get a copy of the series to own but,.......where is the second half of the collection? It seems to be nowhere in Amazon. And of course I talking bout the Blu-ray English dubbed version like this first collection.

The original Gundam...
In terms of picture quality and audio, I was really happy with this. However, as far story and music goes, the original Gundam is kind of awful! The main character, Amuro is a whiny teenager who compared to other series Gundam pilots is terrible. He complains more than Kira Yamato, at one point he wasn't just a deserter, he stole the Gundam. And he's cold as ice to his supposedly close friend, Fraw. Little children are allowed to run around the bridge of the ship like it's a playground. Characters die and really it's hard to care because you didn't know them, and they really didn't matter either. In most cases, I found Zeon characters to be more interesting than the Federation characters. That all being said, this is where Gundam started, so I'm grateful for this original series, and it's the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 2 or 3.For this era though, the original Macross series is a lot better.

The original and one of the best
If you want to see the very first gundam-anything this is it. No, its not as flashy as lets say Seed or newer Gundam series. However, what makes this and the Universal Century-era of Gundam so awesome is how grounded and relatively realistic it is. The story telling and character interactions are what keep you hooked. This review is written by someone who originally blew this off when it came to teh US on toonami. this is because i had already watched Wing, and G and their high-action flare. I purchased this original and its sequels because i wanted to give the originals the chance they deserved. This is now one of my favorites. If you want a good story and to be constantly on teh edge of your seat, look no further,.

Blu-Ray tops the DVD format
I've been waiting years for this to finally come out, and I was not disappointed. This is the cleanest format I've seen the series in, and it feels like watching the original without any loss on video or audio quality!Pros:Simple and straight-forward menu, not clunky or confusing to navigate.Superb and clean English and Japanese audio. (English is the same version released on television in the US in the 2000's)2-disc format is much better than the 4-disc format from a few years back.Cons:Region 1 locked. I couldn't play it on my PC as most Blu-Ray have worked for me.Subtitle font could have been a little better, but not a deal breaker by any means.*Edit*: Episode 14.5 (15 in JP) "Cucuruz Doan's Island" is still missing, likely due to the North America release cut of this episode. This episode is pretty much impossible to find, but doesn't cut that much from the overall storyline.I've pre-ordered Part 2, and can't wait for it to arrive. I own the older "Anime Legends" release on DVD, and the quality is amazing compared to the older format.

The Grandfather of Mecha Anime
I just recently my blu-rays and can not express how well the transfers came out, no fuzz, blurs or scratches. This is only 1 of the few anime shows I have watch when I was a kid back in the 70's - 80's and brings back all the memories of this show, good and bad, I would not trade it off for anything. This was the show along with Macross / Robotec that changed afternoon and Saturday cartoon shows forever.Don't expext any CGI, or any state of the art animation, these shows were all done in cell painted animation, in other words, hand draw animation. This is the show that started the Mechaniation of Animation! The Grandfather of all Robo anime. The show holds all of it enduring chacteristics of building people thru out the show and how war has changed them. Now if only Star Blazers were out on Blu-ray, then I can be happy.
