Natural Born Killers [DVD]

Just buy it, it's one of the best movies ever made.

"Natural Born Killers" is Oliver Stone's "take-no-prisoners" assault on the media that is cinematic eye-candy to the teeth. It's an uneasy satire to watch, but it is an extremely effective film that is both thrilling and funny. Many people loath this movie, as it is not an easy one to take. I feel there's a lot of ugly truths hidden within, and those truths aren't very easy to accept for most. For those who are aware of how manipulative and hypocritical the media world can be are in for one crazy and unforgiving ride that has no limits.Mickey and Mallory Knox may appear to be your ordinary couple, but they aren't. In fact, the two are notorious serial killers who love to get their adrenaline pumping by destroying the lives of others. The media has pretty much made the villainous duo heroes to the public, as they can't get enough of them. They headline every single news program with absolute pride. As the two continue their bloody rampage through the states, the public is watching every step of the way with bloodshot eyes.The structure of the film is usually what turns people off from it, but I thought it was all executed perfectly. It doesn't follow your basic plot structure in the same way most films do. We're presented with the characters, the conflict, resolution, etc.--but it's pieced together in random spots as if you were surfing through different channels on the TV. This is extremely effective for what Stone is trying to convey. It's a disturbing film because it actually sheds light on something most people don't want to fess up to, and that is the glorification of criminals and violence. I found it to be a breath-taking satire, as well as an outstanding film all together.One of the many strong points that this film has is the amazing acting from the superb cast. Woody Harrelson is savagely entertaining as the notorious "Mickey," while Juliette Lewis is beautiful and deadly. Robert Downey Jr. is a complete joy to watch as he partakes in the role of the obsessive talk-show host who is only concerned with ratings (now, who does he remind you of?). It also must be said that Tommy Lee Jones gives one of his funniest performances ever--the expressions on his face are absolutely priceless.This particular DVD version of the movie contains a bunch of goodies for DVD fanatics. One of the main features is that this is the "Director's Cut." While it's not much longer than the original theatrical version, certain extended shots and angles deemed "controversial" have been restored in this version. The picture and sound quality is really great and does the film the justice that it deserves. Extras that can be found on the DVD include the director's commentary, deleted scenes, an alternative ending, and cast and crew interviews. Not a bad package, if you ask me."Natural Born Killers" is an absolute cinematic treat to film buffs. While it's most likely not to be welcomed with open-arms by most, it certainly is entertaining to those who love it. It's not your ordinary movie, that much is for sure. If you're looking for a risk-taking satire that defies all of the rules and boundaries, this might be the choice for you. Oliver Stone hit it out of the park. This has been one of my favorites since it came out in the theaters. It’s very intense. This movie sends you on an epic journey with two star crossed lovers leaving a path of wreckage and pure destruction behind them. NBK’s is a trippy thriller that will not disappoint. Be ware it’s violent, but has moments of beauty and love. The cinematography is stunning. Buckle your seat belt and hang on!

We own the director's cut, which I highly recommend. But even the mass released version is a great film. It's way over the top in violence and aux imagery, and the plot is EXTRA. But every character is literally a statement about the world we live in. This film is so much smarter than many people give it credit for. Much like Fight Club, Natural Born Killers asks you to look at exaggerated versions of media, what we watch and how we watch it, what we live with every day in our world, and how we respond to those people and events. In a way it's a movie about all of us. It blurs the line between good and bad, right and wrong, exposing the vast gray areas of life we often ignore. Juliette Lewis and Woody Harrelson are excellent with great chemistry, sharing the screen with a great cast.I say that but I've seen this movie like 30 times so sometimes, frankly, I just put this on the telly after a truly shyte day and let the madness wash away my reality (Fight Club is also great for that, so is Boondock Saints). But it's worth a watch or three to see what Oliver Stone's commentary, his vision. Like I said, it's a much smarter film than it appears going in.

What I love the most about NBK isn't the cast. I believe that too often, people see the cast and are disappointed in the movie. What really hooked me was the visuals of the film. It isn't like every other film, and when Quentin Tarantino's well runs dry, I'd love to see his version of the film. I really liked the varying camera shots and the animation. It does have kind of a music video feel to it. I also love the fact that something is ALWAYS going on, and it holds my attention, which is a good thing, seeing that I get tired of movies easily. I'm not necessarily the biggest fan of what American society has become over time, and truly appreciate the point of the movie that it tries to drive home. This film is a little cerebral, and may take more than one session to appreciate the film. It is definitely a love/hate film. Me personally, I love it. To the NBK haters out there, definitely give the film another try. I didn't really like Fear and Loathing when I first saw it, but I LOVE that movie. If you nitpick every part of the film, you have ruined it for yourself, because now there's nothing to enjoy about it, because it has been roughly criticized. Just sit back and enjoy the film. If you're into conventional film, and you want to see a dime a dozen picture, you have come to the wrong place. Sure it's a blood bath, but what's to be expected from a film called Natural Born Killers?

I don't believe that there is another film that better epitomizes what a postmodern work of art is. Does that mean it is a great...even good...movie? I honestly don't know. NBK entertains me, amazes me, disgusts me, traumatizes me, makes me laugh, horrifies me, etc etc. I haven't the slightest idea what Oliver Stone intended this thing to say or do. I know that supposedly it was a protest against the media's penchant for sensationalization but I don't buy that. I think it's just an amazing, technically complex (and yet ultimately shallow) pastiche of largely stomach churning images. As a quintessential product of the late 20th Century, it is invaluable. It simply exists. If nothing else, it is an overloaded textbook of film styles/techniques. In the end, probably much ado about nothing. But it cannot be ignored. And that's more than I can say for most of the utterly worthless pablum that the 'artistes' of late 20th-early 21st century America have foisted onto our culture.

Un gran clásico, muy recomendable

Contiene muchisimo material extra como entrevistas, comentario del director y demás. La imagen, sonido y subtitulos están perfectos, así que 5 estrellitas.

Lo que me ha llegado no es el Director's Cut. Una estafa, ni siquiera es la caratula. No hay porque engañar.

Schon der Titel ist weit entfernt bei mir innere Wärme zu erzeugen. Also, eher KALT!Es ist ein provokanter Film, das ist die Wahrheit.Von einem Regisseur, der 1994 schon einige sehr gute Filme gemacht hat. Oliver Stone konnte sich die Drehbücher aussuchen, er schreibt, wie wir wissen, auch selbst einige. Und kann schon mit Brian De Palma, der in Scarface (1983) als Regisseur fungiert, eine künstelirsche Li­ai­son eingehen, aus der ein wunderbarer, harter, schwerer Film entsteht. Al Pacino sei Dank!Hier hat Oliver Stone das Drehbuch von Quentin Tarantino benutzt, den Film gedreht und es entstand "Natural Born Killers". Ich möchte ein Mäuschen bei den Gesprechen sein, es ist am Ende nämlich KEIN Drehbuch von Q.T. Wie man liest, wollte Tarantino etwas anderes, leider sind die Gerüchte immer so/so. Und so ist Tarantino nur als Autor der Story genannt.WAS MACHT DEN FILM SO BESONDERS?Stone war mit seinen Themen immer (damals wenigstens) ein Vorreiter, konnte in JFK Kevin Costner EINE gefühlte Stunde ein Plädoyer sprechen lassen. Das war/ist Oliver Stone. Etwas von einem Enfant terrible, etwas von einem großen Filmemacher und etwas - manchmal - nicht ganz zu Ende gemacht.Was Tarantino aus seiner Story machen wollte, werden wir nicht erfahren, was Stone gemacht hat, ist eine Geschichte über zwei jungen Menschen, die durch A**** reisen, hinter ihnen bleiben blutige Spuren.Mallory (Juliette Lewis) und Mickey Knox (Woody Harrelson), zwei junge Menschen haben "auf ihre Art die Reise begonnen". Mal, wie er sie nennt und Mickey (M&M) sind auf dem Roadtrip von Arizona nach Süden. Sie sind nicht zimperlich, ihre Welt ist aus der Gewalt entstanden, ihr Leben alles andere als schön, behütet. Sie entschließen sich berühmt zu werden. So lassen sie IMMER einen Zeugen, der berichten kann; M&M waren hier.In wenigen Wochen herrscht im Süden das Chaos, die Polizei ist hinter ihnen, sie können immer flüchten.Im Flashback's wird ihre Vergangenheit gezeigt. Die Kamera ist schonungslos. Beide wurden von den Eltern bzw. von ihren Nächsten misshandelt, es werden Bilder gezeigt, die noch mehr erahnen lassen.Beide hatten keine Bezugsperson, sie sind, was die Umgebung aus ihnen gemacht hat. Also, Umgebung (die Genetik?, die Ethik, die Moral???)....Mallory und Mickey, die sich auf einer Brücke selbst "trauen" lassen, mögen sich, lieben sich. AUf IHRE WEISE. Sie sind verwandte Seelen. Ohne Gewissen gegen die anderen, sie haben eine Mission begonnen und werden sie fortsetzen. So der Plan. Die Konsequenzen - vergessen wir sie!Sie kosten jede Sekunde aus, wobei Mickey unter Drogen manchmal sogar für Mallory zu weit geht.Sie beschützen sich so lange, wie es geht. Ihre Geschichte endet im Gefängnis - so sieht es aus. Die Polizei war im Mehrzahl. Doch, die Menschen sind fasziniert vom Pärchen, das sich mit größten V*** indentifiziert. "Haben wir mehr Aufmerksamkeit bekommen wie Ted Bundy, oder wie M.M.?", fragt Mickey."Ja, mehr wie Bundy, doch nicht so viel wie M.M." Sie LIEBEN den Täter (Mallory weniger, die steht ihnen im Weg...).Das Gefängnis ist ein Mikrokosmos, in dem andere Gesetze herrschen. Die Informationen brauchen keine Radio- oder TV-Sendungen, man erfährt einfach alles.Mallory, die anscheinend apathisch bis aggressiv nicht so weit von Mickey "wohnt", bekommt so (fast) alles mit.Das Gefängnis ist auch ein Land, eine Republik, in der öfter die Revolutionen ausbrechen (für eine Evolution ist die Zeit zu kurz, es eilt immer).Was geschieht bei den Dreharbeiten, die Wayne Gale macht, zeigt - Man solle sich NIE mit einem Soziopathen wie Mickey messen. Es geht einfach nicht. Und Mickey hat in einem Jahr aus der Republik "Gefängnis" seine Welt erschaffen.Doch, was die Menschen vor den TV sehen, ist ihnen wert, nur zuzusehen und sich - was eigentlich?Sie sind "Live" dabei. Erleben die Show ihres Lebens! Sowas werden sie nicht zweimal sehen können.WAS WILL UNS STONE SAGEN?Die jungen Menschen sind nicht nur schlecht! Aber, als Psychiaterin kann ich (leider) keine Emotionen finden. Außer einmal - bei Mallory. Ja, sie haben Gefühle füreinander, doch die sind auf der Basis ihrer Vergangenheit entstanden. Und mit dieser Vergangenheit haben sie noch nicht abgeschlossen.Können zwei Menschen so reagieren wie M&M? Ist das die Antwort auf eine schlimme, schreckliche Kindheit?Bedeutet dies, dass wir uns wegen der Vergangenheit berechtigt fühlen unsere Mitmenschen zu er****, nur weil sie im Weg sind?Ist das überhaupt möglich? Ist der Mensch OHNE innere "Bremsen"? Ohne Gewissen?Und das sind die Fragen (und viele mehr), die mir beim Film noch immer im Kopf spucken...Es ist ein harter Film, Juliette Lewis spielt erschreckend gut (so jung damals), Woody Harrelson ist zum fürchten.Auch Tommy Lee Jones kann überzeugen, und natürlich Robert Downey Jr.Alle zusammen und andere auch machen aus dem Film eine Story über die Schrecken, die wir nie erleben möchten. Über die Kinder, die keine Kindheit hatten. Über die Zeit, in der man die Normen vergisst, die Welt macht sich nicht viel aus den Worten wie Respekt, Liebe...aber, wir verwenden sie immer sehr sehr gerne.Zwischen 3-4 Punkte und entschuldigung an ALLE, die dem Film nach ihrer Sicht mehr gegeben haben.Danke an ALLE!Wenn Stone das zeigen wollte, ist es ihm gelungen. Die Kamerabilder sind OSCARREIF! Die Musik perfekt...nur, wieder am Anfang - es fehlt etwas.
