Wonderful Course for Informal Fallacies
My 8th grade daughter loved doing The Art of Argument so much that I let her focus on it, and she finished it in a quarter. We used the DVD, and it is worth the money. She found their presentations of informal fallacies and debate examples engaging. She's been pointing out fallacies in commercials, articles, and in conversations around the dinner table. She has enjoyed this course so much, that she has asked to continue with the other books in the series in high school. She had started taking a critical thinking class in a homeschool co-op, but we had to move after only six weeks into the semester. She said she prefers The Art of Argument to the text used in the co-op.I love that The Art of Argument does not shy away from difficult topics. I felt the course did a great job of presenting different points of view, rather than turning the lessons into a soap box for different causes.

Great Introduction Book
This book is clear and easy to follow, entertaining, and the end-of-chapter exercises are helpful in applying the concepts. It's written to be simple and for a younger audience, but I'm in my 30s and I enjoyed it. I'd recommend it for anyone just getting into logic and reasoning.

Objective and LOGICAL
I'm a homeschool mom of 4 and am educating a middle (logic stage) student. I almost hesitated buying this book because of one review that alluded to it being politically slanted. I'm glad I went ahead with it, because it really presents Logic in an understandable way with GREAT real life examples. I think it's quite objective and reasons through the arguments very well and simply. One could still come to their own personal conclusion however they want, the book just points out logistical facts. AWESOME book, I recommend it.

Great Student Book, less excited about teacher book
I like the topic, really like how it is presented, and felt like the students in the class absorbed a great deal of the information. What I would have liked was more information in the teacher's book, to explain why some of the answers are the way they were. (We wound up deciding, as a group, that the answers were up for debate, since the authors did not choose to support their answers. :D ) The struggle we had was that this was a class being taught by two teachers that were not familiar with the topic any more than the students were. We were all learning together. So, for this particular book, I think they did a great job. As a curriculum, however, I feel the publisher could do more than simply use a student book with answers fille din. Give the teachers some support.

Great overview
This would make a really good text book for kids. Maybe if we were taught this as kids, we would have clearer heads as adults. Most adults lack the critical skills of recognizing false logic in arguments, spend so much of their energy trying to convince each other of this or that, and once convinced, sign up whole-heartedly to spread the same argument around. It's nice to be able to recognize bull-**** when you hear it! This book helps clarify the age-old methods of argument as well as helps one recognize lack of validity when others employ them. Don't drink the....!

book is damaged but content looks great
My book had 30 pages ripped at the bottom. All the page numbers for those thirty pages have been torn off along with the title of the chapter that was underneath the page numbers.Don't have time to return it because we need the book for a class my kids are taking. The content of the book however looks great. My kids look forward to working through it.

Simple, yet engaging
Understandable and interesting descriptions of each of the logical fallacies, with engaging questions and activities. Each fallacy's section is short and simple, making it an easy thing to fit in to your plan for the day or week. My almost 11-yr-old finds it really interesting, but I think I enjoy it even more!

The art of argument
Very engaging and informative text/workbook. It is useful for adults and children as it utilizes practical examples to explain critical aspects of logic--useful for everyday. One need not be a student of formal logic to become well-versed in understanding logic and this book certainly is a useful tool.
