Solid value
I wore an analog watch many years ago and decided to get one recently because I'm kind of tired of the endless stream of slop served up on screens. This Casio tells time the old fashioned analog way, without any bells and whistles - you get time, date, and that's it in terms of information. The Arabic numerals are big enough to read easily at a glance. In low light, you can use the light button to activate an LED, which provides enough light to read the time. The strap is nylon and leather, which I find decently comfortable. The Velcro on the strap makes for a precise fit. It keeps pretty good time, as well - it's rated for +/- 20 seconds per month, but mine is off by just 4-5 seconds within the first 3 weeks of owning it, which I would guess would only put it off by 6 seconds and change for a month - not bad at all, really. Oh, and one other thing: I can't hear this thing ticking unless I stick it directly up to my ear. It's nice and quiet, which is important if you're someone who can't tolerate constant little repetitive noises in the background of your life.

Great Everyday Watch!
I’m really impressed with the Casio FT500WC. It’s lightweight, comfortable to wear all day, and the design looks even better in person. The timekeeping is accurate, and the build quality feels solid for the price. The battery life is supposed to last a few years, which is great for a simple analog watch. I also love the vintage military-style look — it goes well with any outfit. Definitely worth the money!

This is a great looking watch and I gave it to my husband as a new years gift. He loves it. Great price, great look , and face size is perfect. Numbers easy to read. So worth it

A good watch that just looks outdoorsy.
I am comparing this to a Timex Men's T40011 Expedition Camper Black Fast Wrap Velcro Strap Watch . I think the target market for the Timex and this Casio are about the same...people who are looking for an inexpensive yet dependable watch to support their activities in The Great Outdoors. However, that watch doesn't need to have tons of bells and whistles on it, nor does it really need to be overbuilt. I have to say, in terms of styling this watch really has a lot going for it. It just *looks* outdoorsy. The band matches the color accents on the watch body nicely, and the numerals are complimentary to the entire scheme. It really is a sharp looking watch, especially when you consider the price point. And yes, in terms of flair I think it has the edge over the Timex, even though I could kind of do without the "Forester" name at the top of the watch. The band is nice and light nylon with a Velcro fastener. It has an entirely superfluous loop on it, though, intended to secure the end of the band. Not sure what this is for, since the Velcro keeps everything nice and tidy. It just makes it harder to take the watch off your wrist. I actually cut the loop off this watch. I'm also not a fan of the "Forester" name imprinted on the end of the band. In terms of function, the watch performs identically to the Timex with one distinction - the Casio is water resistant to 100 meters, while the Timex is water resistant to 50 meters. In practical terms, this means with the Casio you really have nothing to worry about when it comes to being near, around, or in the water. The Timex suffers a bit, since a 50 meter rating really means "showers and rain." The functions on these watches are otherwise identical - simple timekeeping, no bezel, and a date only. Honestly, since this watch was intended for a Boy Scout to have something simple with him as he's hiking around, the date function on either isn't that important for that. Now then, the illumination. The Casio features a rather nice backlight, activated by a dedicated button on the side. In practice I found the button a little difficult to manipulate. It just didn't seem as positive as the all-in-one crown and Indiglo knob on the Timex. However, the illumination does a good job in making the face easy to read in near- or total darkness, but isn't so bright that it's blinding. Since I mentioned the crown - the Casio has it offset at the 4:00 position, the Timex at 3:00. I found the crown on the Casio a little harder to manipulate because of where it is. Indeed, I couldn't pull out the crown at all while wearing the watch. So I have to say, this isn't a *bad* watch. It's a simple watch that will serve you well on outdoorsy things. It's light (indeed, I often forgot that I was wearing it) and keeps decent time. I do have to give the Timex the edge though, simply because of the way the crown is designed and the kind-of-weird light button on the Casio. But that isn't to say the Forester won't serve you well...it will.

Update two weeks later/ Cheap feeling but looking nice
I've used this watch on and off with my other, the band is uncomfortable and needs to be set really loose or else cuts off blood flow, the month can't seem to be set to the right day, no matter what I do it's always wrong a few days later, the time isn't right half the time I'm resetting it, just off a few minutes always, can't see the day of the month anyway without holding it right in front of your face or using glasses that magnify or a flashlight, so that doesn't matter much kind of a useless feature and since it goes to 31 days it's going to be wrong on any non 31 day month, the time being off is only about three minutes at worst so no so crucial that it ruins it's feature as a watch and the band so it's loose it just moves around a little instead of being rock tight on your wrist and being loose fixes the uncomfortable band problem. Still looks pretty nice so I wear it instead of my fancier double the price digital which is all black and is like cars now adays looks like every other digital in it's price range, black and boxy, where this has outdoor hiking look to it. For price range still satisfied, but these updates may be deal breakers for some, who care about date, or exact time constantly being right. I just got this right off the truck. I opened it with anticipation. First impression once the box was open was cool. Then after pulling off it's display case I felt and saw it's kind of cheap and the leather is more of a hard plastic and I totally had to open it up and pull flap out to get it on my wrist. Pull the button one and go counter clockwise to set the date, fairly quick to do, since it says 31 days on it don't know how it knows to keep right date on 28 day month, etc. Will see. The watch grew on my quickly once I had it on and stopped being such a finick and it really looks nice. Numbers are big and ez to read all but the date good luck reading that when you need it. I've had to loosen up the band to it's loosest setting to get blood flow back to my hand was hurting my writ having it too tight, weird. Some complain about the velcro being all the way up and down the bottom side, doen't look bad, or not to noticable, the face catches the eye mostly, I just hope like they say the velcro doesn't wear out and make it so it doesn't stick. The light is useless in the day time as I just checked, but who needs it then and seems to show mildy here at my comp, nice ez button on right side of the watch for light, very simple watch with ez to read hands and numbers, this is my second watch and I'm sure to have a lot more in time, I love watches and jewelery. For seventeen bucks and free shipping and this being a very cheap name brand watch you can't go wrong, any teen would love this as a gift. I think so far money well spent and now I can put my fancy all black, with multiple time zones, compass, and thermostate away for a while and trend more of a outdoorsy mantage. Second hand won't move when dial is pulled in first or second click don't worry starts right back up when pushed back flat. Remember it's all plastic and cloth, the face is plastic not crystal, so probably will crack with a good thump, the leather and outside watch is very cheap plastick and brow, but sixteen bucks for a cool casio get over the what it's not part and know you've got a from a distance quality time piece. Maybe one day I'll own a Movado but for know these fifteen to forty dollar watches will make due and can be lost or broken without tears. Only complaint is it's not leather and cloth and no glass face if I had to complain, but ob la dee.

Comfortable great little watch for the price.
Took it on vacation and it performed flawlessly. The watch face itself is smaller than I thought it would be, but that turned out to not be an issue. This watch also has one of those straps that attaches via velcro (and not a typical buckle style, for example) so its easy to adjust for the right tightness. It's so comfortable as a result of that, I often fall asleep at night forgetting that I am still wearing this watch. Looks great on my wrist with it's earth-tones color.

Honest Review
Fantastic Watch, I work in corrections its built nice and at a price range where if it happens to break doing a cell extraction or something along those lines its not gonna break the bank to fix, replace. Very sturdy easy apply watch band no mental on the watch clasp thats also huge in my line of work.

Looks great but get a replacement band
I have two issues with this watch. The faux leather band employs Velcro as a fastener which I found annoying. I replaced it with a flexible brown band from WatchBand Hub (Amazon). The date is difficult to see because the numbers are small. The "push to light" button is a nice feature. I like the look of the face for casual wear.
