Hi Steve, this unit is powered by a wired mains lead, there is a single double a battery used for the remote control which is where the ambiguity may be coming from. Hope this helps.

Q: Please can someone tell me the frequency response of the speakers (i am really interested in the pmx94 but assume is same)

Not too sure as this is the replacement for my old one Sony which I had it 15 years. The Panasonic I do love it.
