Dogs go through, cats do not
We have large dogs along with cats. We do not want the cats outside. How do you accomplish this?I was resigned to complicated electronic solutions, which would require our dogs to each wear collars. We'd also have to maintain batteries in collars and in the electronic door system. And they are not foolproof, if you read the reviews. Some of these electronic dog doors cost over a thousand dollars! Yikes.I resisted buying these things, and came across this dog door. Sounded great. The larger sizes with double flaps can be costly, but the medium to small size was more reasonable. In addition, the description promised a high-quality construction with solid materials. I've had other dog and cat doors, and this alone would be worth it; just tired of crappy plastic stuff. This is a great door. Installation was a breeze. And the doors themselves are very solid. I would call them commercial grade. I was very pleased when I pulled them out of the box and saw how substantial they were. Any plastic is not structural. We bought the double flap. This means instead of one frame with a flap and one frame without a flap, you get two frames with flaps, essentially duplicates except one side accepts the attachment screws, and should be used on the outside (you don't want a thief to be able to pry off the screw hole covers and expose the heads of the phillips screws allowing removal). The door works great. The flap mechanism is substantial and effective. They secure with a firm "click" of the magnets. I feel like my door is still secure and weatherproof, even with these things on. And the appearance is of quality, not some cheap plastic.About going in and out of the door: If your dogs are the least bit reticent, it will take some training. The magnetic closure is secure and it takes a significant push to free the flap. Twice that with double flaps. But with diligent training I think any dog will take to the door. Lots of treats and help until they go in and out without a second thought.About cats: A big deterrent for buying those electronic doors, in addition to the collars and batteries and expense and maintenance, was the reviews that said smart cats still find a way to get out! Either they hang out at the door until the dogs go through and take advantage of the opportunity, or they learn to signal the dogs to open the door for them! Yikes again. Here I could have purchased an expensive plastic electronic assembly and found out it still let the cats out. Thank you reviewers for pointing this out.Cats will not get out this door, unless they are tigers. It's just too hard to push through; especially the double flap. Indeed, the box or instructions state 'not for cats'. (Keep in mind we are using the large size 10 with double flaps. Your experience might vary for smaller doors with single flaps and single-minded, strong cats.)Anyhow, our cat hasn't even attempted to get out. I am very pleased with this door and recommend it highly. Even without cats I would get this door. It sort of puts the others to shame.Note: A reviewer said they had problems aligning the screws. Well, I've had to align screws hundreds of times, in more difficult scenarios; this one just wasn't a big deal. Put the door on a flat surface, like a workbench (not strung between two saw horses, which is how you cut the hole). Try using a flashlight, shining a light into the hole, adjusting so the screw hole appears lined up, and slide the screw in straight. We didn't even have to use the flashlight, just squared the doors more or less equally on the opening and the screws found their holes readily. It was straight forward.

Best performing solution there is.
If you have ever installed a dog door yourself, you know the feeling when your house horse decides they'd rather just have an unimpeded path to their stomping grounds, eating the rubber flap, plastic housing, and a concerning amount of insulation from inside the actual door. You come home, encounter a giant gaping hole in your house, allowing snow, cold air, the neighbor's kids, and whatever else is empowered to set up shop, hanging out in your kitchen. Even though your dog is proud of his recent accomplishments and you want to be supportive, it's also quite frustrating. After going through the described scenario not once or twice, but three times in an 8 month period with various other door styles. I decided to get serious about solving the problem, even though the neighbor kids were starting to grow on me. My 100lb, prominently jowled, summer sausage tail swinging, chocolate Lab wasn't going to win this one. Even if he was better rested than me because my wife insisted on that $200 Tempurpedic dog bed.I researched for hours, obsessing about the details, reading the reviews. This is the one that kept rising to the top. I bit the bullet for $300 and ordered the large door. It showed up, directions were good and I put it in without a hitch. Keep in mind, I was well-practiced with installation at this point, and I already had a hole cut in the door from the previous three attempts, which happened to be the same size.We have now had it for over 2 years, and this thing is built to last. It is a full metal frame (chew proof) and has a magnet system that surrounds the entire opening, minus the hinge. We are on the original flap still, which just requires the occasional soapy wipe down. The wind doesn't push it open like others I have used and it keeps your indoor climate indoors. It is a little loud though, and that takes some getting used to, but I don't mind. It's the sound of effective design and I couldn't be happier. Buy it, you won't be let down.Installation tips: Take the door off the hinges, place it on sawhorses with towels, put masking tape on the door where the cuts will be, draw your lines on the tape, tape the bottom of the jigsaw so you don't scratch the door, cut one side at a time, not all at once. Measure carefully, be patient, watch videos on youtube. Most importantly, when you are done, be sure to caulk the edge of the dog door frame to the exterior of the door, so that moisture can't get inside the frame or door itself. Good luck.

Has a gap in the door sealant and blows open in the wind!
The media could not be loaded. I bought this product because it boasts of its ‘complete sealant’ around all sides of the door (with magnets) and I am so annoyed and disappointed to find that it has a big gap all down one side which lets in so much cold and draught into my living room! I’m also annoyed to see after installation that it blows open in the wind!! Would not recommend!

Excellent dog door
I spent weeks looking for a suitable dog door. I needed something weather-proof and durable. Installation was a little difficult (definitely need at least two people!) but we have a cheap, hollow door so the drilling wasn't difficult. But once you get it cut, just slap the two sides together and screw it in.My dog uses it all the time, and the seal is very strong and completely weatherized. He chewed a little bit on the corner of the flap, but it's pretty thick so he didn't get too much damage done. Have had it for a few months now and it's holding up quite well!

Spend for quality!
Worth the cost, still working great.

The lovely window guy got this fitted into a bifold glass double glazed door.
This has a better magnetic hold than any other flap I've come across and being 'double skinned' and still clear'ish, the dog goes through it with no problems. It's narrower than my old large dog door and much more secure because of this. The window guy fitted it beautifully into the double glazed bi-fold door. The dog is using it without any problems. Result. Worth every penny as certainly not draughty like any standard flap available on the UK market. Worth the extra money getting it from the US - if you have it.

Simply THE BEST
We had a dog-flap made by the market-leading manufacturer and so I speak from experience when I say that the Endura eclipses the old one in every respect. OK, it is a lot more expensive but I believe this is money well spent. The Endura was easier to fit (lots), much more substantially built and importantly does NOT blow open in high winds (which we get regularly here on the Isle of Skye). As you'll see from the pic, we had to install it in the hole left by the previous dog flap so the flap is not in the most aesthetically pleasing situation, but on a pristine door it would look very smart.Thoroughly recommended by me AND the dog!
