So beautiful
Gill has done it again with this book. I have always loved Greek mythology so this book really hit me hard. With beautiful writing and excellent story telling, Nikita Gill has stolen my heart.

Always engaging
Every piece I've read from Nikita Gill is fascinating and lore-filled, and this is no different. Admittedly, I don't know loads about a lot of these goddesses, but Gill does a great job of storytelling while using them as metaphor for modern life, allowing the reader to grasp the historic context and the present meaning in the short amount of time it takes to read each poem.

myths & feminism
I chose this for @book_roast’s #magicalreadathon a few months back (and paired it with her other book of poems, Fierce Fairytales, another really great read!) This one really stuck out to me between the pair of books, and I have to admit I liked it much better. I am a huge lover of Greek myths so I had a good basic understanding of the tales themselves. It was very empowering to see some new interpretations of the stories, all told from the female perspective. Considering that all of the OG myth-tellers were male (Homer, Hesoid, Ovid, Virgil, Herodotus…) this book brings a breath of fresh air to the readings. I really enjoyed the short versions of these myths retold, and I loved how the book was structured―the poems were organized like the gods’ genealogy tree, which I thought was really cohesive and gave a good sense of chronology. featuring hand-drawn illustrations by the author. If you like myths and feminism, you will like Great Goddesses.

Some great poems and some duds
I really loved some of the poems in this collection, but others fell quite flat, so overall it's a mixed bunch. Worth the read but maybe not as fantastic as the hype makes it out to be.

Good but not my favorite
It's really well written, but I thought this was gonna be like a feminist power manifesto of stories of all the goddesses and then it's a lot of mythology following the god and goddess' stories, but with a lot of bad or okay endings. Just not the power manifesto I thought it was going to be. AWESOME DRAWINGS THOUGH. So fun read, but I like the Fierce Fairytales better.

If you don’t understand mythology - this might not be the book for you
I love Nikita Gill. I haven’t ever purchased one of her books. I decided that I would wait to purchase this new one once I found out about it. In fact, I pre-ordered it because I was so excited. It’s not Nikita’s fault, but because I don’t have a good understanding of mythology a lot of this seemed to be over my head/less than enjoyable. I love her other works, but this one wasn’t a good fit for me. If mythology is your thing then this book is for you. Also, the back of my book has a real ugly crease which is disappointing since this is brand new and just came out today.I’m going to gift this book to a friend who likes mythology and buy one of Nikita Gill’s other works. The passage I took a picture of is one of the only ones I understood and I really loved it! If this book doesn’t work out for you, please give her other books a try!

Feeling like a Goddess
Love this book. I've read Nikita Gil's Fairytales poetry book and I loved the poems and short stories she wrote. Great inspiration and distraction. I really enjoyed this book and I love mythology.

Greek Goddesses ONLY!
It's hard to review a book like this. It is something different - poetic impressions rather than the usual mythological tales the Greek pantheon gets. It's a shame though the title doesn't reflect this as I was hoping for a broader representation of goddesses. Especially those that people are currently following in daily practised devotion which in the Greek arena is limited. There is nothing from Paganism, Aesir or Vanir, Hinduism (odd from a British-Indian poet), Middle or Far Eastern goddesses. It would have been nice to have picked up on some of the poetry for deeper devotional work. The Greek pantheon in the main seems to have been taken over by psychologists with endless interpretations, so at least this book gives a different expression to that pantheon even if just a page or two of poetry. The pen & ink illustrations are very nice too.

Reflections of the goddesses / gods
Interesting telling of some of the characters from Greek mythology, some of the poems could quite easy be monologues. It wasn't overly lyrical in style, which worked to express the cool anger and resigned resentment of the immortals. Would read more from this author.

Meh
A little small... I got this for more of an understanding about mythology and this doesn’t rlly help... it’s rather confusing for a beginner like me. I don’t like the paper cover that wraps around the book, it came kinda crinkled as well. Not too happy but it’s a pretty book.
