The Panasonic DMC-FZ1000 User's Manual

I am always disappointed when I buy a new camera (or almost any electronic device), and it doesn't come with a full instruction manual. Most of the time you only get a brief start-up guide. In this case, even though the provided guide is 96 pages, it doesn't cover everything. So I was glad to see a much improved book offered for this camera with 262 pages, richly illustrated (however in black & white). I am also very pleased that the author; Graham Houghton, has written this manual only for this particular camera, not a class of similar cameras.Only two small quibbles: as already stated, the illustrations are black & white. I think the author has a hard-cover version that has color illustrations, but it is a lot more expensive. Also, there is no index, which would be very helpful in a book of this scope. He explains the lack of an index on the last page.So if you have the Lumix DMC-FZ1000 camera, get this book. It will definitely help you to get the most out of this very full-featured camera.

Looks like there are two versions of this book Color or black and white. I purchased the black and white version. In the listing you have the ability to "look inside" the book. This showed the book in color. The illustrations are all clear and bright. In the black and white book it appears that everything was batch edited. This makes the illustrations lacking in any sort of picture quality. Maybe not a good look for a camera user guide that is supposed to assist you in taking good pictures . That being said the book is quite informative.

I bought this because I wanted some really great photographs of some of the wildlife in our area. It turns out that I was not aware of how much can be done with this piece of equipment and just how much time needs to be spent learning how to use it. The pictures of the birds were my 1st and 2nd pictures taken. Great lens, perfect color, super zoom, outstanding focus-all on full automatic. That is less than 1% of what can be achieved with the FZ1000.

Learned so much more than the online manual included with the camera. Graham also includes his full color user's manual to download and view on your computer or mobile device. His web site has many tutorials to help with the FZ1000 as well as bridge cameras in general. Wonderful tips and hints as well as useful information to help you understand how the camera functions and why. Highly recommend this product. Any FZ1000 camera owner shouldn't be without this manual.

If you have this camera, this book is a perfect companion for it. I have a dslr and it was easy to learn, this camera does so much this book is really needed and does it ever help by clarifying things. I love it and highly recommend it.

Sometimes it helps to have instructions in the official manual restated at greater length, with pictures. That's the function of this book. It has become the manual I use most often, with tabs or bookmarks to indicate pages covering complicated procedures. (Every camera is like a new computer system it seems.)

Very useful info as I bought a used FZ1000 without a manual. The book doesn’t have an index, but fortunately the author sends an ebook for free, which can be searched in iBooks on my iPad.

Really enjoy the author's videos on YouTube. This book, however, is a bit of a disappointment. Mainly that it's in black and white. There are pictures in the book that are supposed to be examples of how different lights look on the subject based on the white balance setting. Well... every picture looked the same obviously. Decent information.

Solo añadir al resto de comentarios que el problema del índice ya está arreglado: lo he comprado hace un mes y viene con el índice. Creo que en calidad/precio está bastante bien el manual. El problema de la versión barata es que está en blanco y negro, pero se soluciona también mandándole un email al autor (viene la dirección en la última página del libro), para que te mande una copia en pdf a color.

This excellent little book is, in my opinion, far more readable/understandable than the user guide supplied by Panasonic.I am an elderly amateur photographer who has just reached into the new world of SLR/Bridge cameras and my pre-existing knowledge of such tools is extremely limited. I tried to read the Panasonic guide but quickly got lost in the gobbledegook, hence my need to try for an alternative.Graham Houghton writes this guide in a manner that is easily understandable to the amateur photographer, and doubtless will also be extremely useful to the more seasoned photographer. Perhaps this is due, in part, to the fact that he is actually a photographer himself and so has an insider's knowledge of the items to be covered.On the downside, all of the illustrations are in black and white and therefore, sometimes, not easy to see in detail. Also the guide does not have an index, although it does have a contents page. To cover this Graham offers purchasers of the book a link to his website and, on request, he will send you a .pdf version of the book. This not only has all of the illustrations in full colour, it is also searcheable as are all .pdf's, so a traditional index is superfluous.The link to Graham's website is on the penultimate page of the guide (where the index would normally be).In summary, I highly recommend this Guide as a means of understanding as much of this complex camera as you wish.
