Aurora AU1215XB 31215 12-Sheet Medium-Duty Cross-Cut Shredder

I decided to write a quick review today simply because I looked at the listing and saw some negative reviews with comments such as "died after a year" and "it won't work properly."Firstly, let me point out that this is not a high volume shredder - it is not suitable for heavy office work, but is aimed more at the home user. I use it in a home office and it does just fine. It's used pretty much every day maybe ten to twelve sheets. It cross cuts to about two inches in length.Mine is now seven years old and still going strong. I have run an oil (cooking oil works just fine) covered sheet through it every couple of months and cleaned it ummm... well not very often really, but it works well even with such minimal care.I have only ever had one problem with it and that occurred today. It continued to run (set on auto) after the paper had gone through. It took me five minutes on the Internet to find the model on Aurora's website (far faster than trying to find where my wife hid it - I mean safely put it).There was no blockage that I could see so their suggestion was that the sensor was dirty. And that indeed was the case. Thirty seconds work with a cotton bud and all was peachy again. For those who are interested the sensor is in the middle of the feed slot a couple of inches down. You will see two small perspex screens opposite each other.Follow the manufacturer's recommendations re maintenance and you should be fine.Highly recommended.

I am surprised. This works really well. It gobbled up my entire quarterly paper shredding batch without a hitch and did not stop from thermal overload once. I am pleasantly surprised having had a lot of problems with shredders in the past. The thing to remember is that, since sheets of paper are folded in an envelope, each sheet is really three thicknesses. so 2 sheets are six. Add the envelope, which can be three thicknesses too from folds and probably a little advertising sheet thrown in you have 10. This is rated to handle that and does. You should not feed it credit card offers though. I did it once to see if it would and it did take it and it did but not easily. I won't do it again. I wish these were made to hold a standard paper grocery bag inside the waste container. This one won't.PROS:Shreds easily and does not overheat easily.Has the reverse just in case.Has the Auto or On demand setting.Shreds credit cards easily.Cons:As with all of these I have had It is a mess to empty and does not fit a paper grocery bag in the hopper to make disposal easier.The "Lawyers flap" which is added to keep people from sticking their fingers into the teeth makes it a little hard to get the sheets in evenly so they feed properly.So far so good. This seems to be a dependable shredder. Because of past bad experiences with shredders I promise to revise this the instant I have any problem. No revision. no problem.

I don't think you could ever feed 10 pages into this as advertised but it works great otherwise. I used regular sheets of paper and it jammed over 5 or 6 papers. Other than that it works fine. Just need to feed 5 pages or less. There is a small window so you can see if it is full. If it becomes too full, the shedding mechanism lifts off the plastic pail and the shredding stops until you empty the pail. A safety feature won't let the shredder work if it's not correctly sitting on the pail. There is a green LED that lets you know it's operational.

I have compared this awesome shredder with many other, lower quality ones, it truly is top of the line.I shred between 10 and 50 pages per day and most shredders have no chance of handling this much use.I even use this to shred cereal boxes and card stock items like food boxes and 12 pack pop boxes. It goes through them like butter and saves trash space!I have vegetable oil in a squirt bottle and I drizzle it on a couple pages when I empty the bin.I love that it has casters and can roll around.I also have a Fellowes Powershred W-11C, and it is good as well.Compared to the Fellowes Powershred W-11C this one is much quieter and seems to be of higher quality.This one is great especially if it is going to sit under a desk, as it allows you to easily shred papers from a front angle. You don't have to worry about shoving papers in the top.I am extremely happy with my purchase. The thing can shred 12 pages, it really can, and has parts that seem to be made to handle it, unlike so many of the lower quality ones!I rarely write reviews on anything, but it was hard to find a good shredder, so I thought I would share this with everyone.You will not be disappointed .

Great little machine that does as advertised. Been using it often for the last month and no problems at all.

I haven't used it much but when I have, it worked as expected but is a bit slow.

I like the shredder but wish it would cut smaller strips
