Night Tides: The Striper Fishing Legend of Billy the Greek

"Slayer of the Silver Cow" - Billy the Greek, Man, Myth or Legend?
A quick read for anyone who enjoys catching a few "Strippahs" from their local haunts. Billy has certainly mastered the art of catching the big ones, but it also comes at a price - Fishing is 1st - everything else, I mean everything else comes after. Catching 2,500 fish with a rod during a slow season was mind boggling to me, I had to do the math twice and was sure there was an extra zero in the numbers, but low and behold this guy is a true master of the species. It was an inspiration to read and even got me up in the middle of the nite to go for the cows under a full moon and a high tide - I got skunked and humbled.A great gift with some terrific photos.

Should see an increase in bridge fishing...
A very good read, this is not a book about how to tie knots and secrete rig set up's. He really won't hit you over the head with specific how to's, but if you embrace what The Greek is all about with his mind-set, you will gain knowledge not just tactics for big bass. A chill went up my spine when in the book it said " lip 'em just like the fresh water bass pro's do" . People who have fished with me will think that I read this book years ago and stole that line. It just shows that we all have a little "Night Tides" in all of us, it's just that Billy The Greek is 110% when it comes to targeting big bass.

Fun read about fishing for big stripers
An interesting book that will make any striper fisherman green with envy. However, parts of it I didn’t believe, and it is too specific for fishing in Long Island to make it of general interest. Nonetheless, a fun read.

Fired Up
I just didn't want this book to end. It will definitely fire you up to go fishing. Because that's what the book is about -- the fire and dedication of Billy the Greek. Cinquemani really captures the all-important intangibles of striper fishing: the majesty and mystery of the fish themselves, and the drive and determination of those who are successful in catching them. It's not a how-to book per se; rather, as I said above, addresses the most important ingredient of success: the desire and persistence of those who pursue them. Billy does reveal the fundamentals, but he also shows you that just knowing them is not enough; you have to apply them, no matter how tough or how much time it takes. Anyone who calls himself or herself a striper fisherman will love this book.

Insightful but hard to follow
Since I am from the area of the protagonist, I found the stories much more inspiring and insightful. The organization and layout of the book was disappointing. I recommend the book for anyone interested in fishing for this species. The hidden bits of advice make the journey well worth it.

Read it three times
Excellent story of a surf fisherman from long island ny and his quest for the biggest bass world record.Told by his apprentice a nyc school teacher, some good tips ,knowledge, on fishing stripe bass and other saltwater fish. Read it twice ...not a how-to -book..Great stories for anyone interested in hunting and catching big fish. Just started reading it for the third time

Meh, should have spent my money elsewhere.
Not poorly written, but this book drags on with the feeling that it will never reach a meaningful conclusion. Entertaining at times, but not frequently enough to be engaging.
